We are delighted to share that on May 4, 2026, the General Meeting of the Estonian Association of Painters officially confirmed Julia Valtanen @julia.valtanen as a new member.
Julia Valtanen (b. 1988) holds a Masterâs degree in Graphic Design (2011) and completed painting studies at the Estonian Academy of Arts (2020).
Her paintings and collages are inhabited by abstract flora, soft geometric forms, and fragments of imagined worlds. Rooted in geometric visual language, mysticism, and landscapes, her work creates hybrid realities that feel simultaneously ancient and futuristic.
A central theme in Valtanenâs practice is the desire to capture the subtle movement of matter that binds everything around us. Through her work, she explores forms of communication between human and non-human worlds, reflecting on the interconnectedness and mutual influence of all existence.
By reinterpreting elements found in nature, Valtanen constructs entirely new forms and spaces that invite contemplation and discovery.
Julia currently works from her studio in the ARS building in Tallinn.
The exhibition FLUID, FRAGILE has entered its final chapter â only three weeks remain to experience it, until May 24th.
As we prepare to travel to London Photo Fair, we also wanted to make a little more space for encounter and conversation in Tallinn.
Next weekend, May 16th and 17th, Julia Valtanen @julia.valtanen will be present at the gallery, offering a firsthand insight into her practice, the works currently on view and selected pieces from the archive.
A rare occasion to meet the artist and share a moment of conversation before the exhibition comes to a close. If you are in Tallinn, make sure to come by!
We are excited and proud to share that we are now officially part of The Association of Estonian Art Institutions!
Itâs an honor to stand alongside a community that supports and shapes the cultural landscape, and to contribute to a shared vision of art, dialogue, and creative exchange.
We look forward to what lies ahead and to growing together within this inspiring network.

At first glance, the exhibition FLUID, FRAGILE may seem to move away from photography, but its core is deeply rooted in it.
In "Trophy. Morning.", Maret Sarapu @marette works with her family photo archive, translating photographic images into glass mosaics. What emerges is not a direct copy, but a careful reconstruction â of an image, and of the memory it carries.
The work is based on a photograph of Tööstuse Street, the road she takes daily between home and studio. It captures a brief, almost unnoticeable moment: sunlight breaking through the trees. Something ordinary, yet quietly precise in its beauty.
There is a certain sensitivity in the way these pieces hold time â not as something fixed, but as something fragile and subjective. They remind us that images are never just documents; they are vessels shaped by experience, distance, and recollection.
Several works from the "Trophies" series are already part of the collection of the Estonian Museum of Applied Art and Design (ETDM).

FLUID, FRAGILE is a space where fluidity and fragility are not opposed but complement one another. Matter, form, and perception exist in a state of continuous transformation, where interconnections prove more important than the objects themselves.
The exhibition is open until May 24th and supported by the Cultural Endowment of Estonia.

The Amphora, an archetypal form known as a symbol of wholeness and stability, holds a special place at the FLUID, FRAGILE exhibition.
In Maretâs work, it is covered with a fragile mosaic, turning into a surface assembled from fragments. Here, the unified form is sustained by a multitude of individual elements, each retaining its autonomy. The whole emerges not in spite of the fragment, but because of it.
The exhibition is open until May 24th, every Thursday and Friday 13â19, Saturday and Sunday 14â18, or by appointment.
đ„ On Wednesday, April 22 at 6 pm, an artist tour with Julia Valtanen will take place at Punctum Gallery as part of the exhibition "Fluid, Fragile". The tour will be held in English and is free for everyone.
