Our Cobham House explores how brickwork, proportion, and craftsmanship can create a home that feels both modern and deeply rooted in its surroundings
A key challenge was responding to the established character of the street without falling into pastiche. The result is a carefully composed 2.5-storey dwelling that balances familiarity with a clean contemporary language

Inspired by an Arts & Crafts tradition, our new build house in Sevenoaks uses local clay bricks and roof tiles to ensure the house sits harmoniously within its historic landscape. Reference was made to Lutyens Folly Farm, where we have introduced tumbled buttresses with semi-circular arches. The layout references Baillie Scott’s own Red House.

We are always keen to specify self-finished materials. At our project in Old Hunstanton, we chose an Ibstock Crowborough Multi-coloured Stock with flush lime mortar joints for the internal load bearing brick walls which as well as supporting the floors and roof, also provides a rich and interesting texture to the double height entrance hall.

Had a lovely weekend at this coastal Norfolk house. We designed this for a long-standing client a few years ago, completely reimagining and extending an existing bungalow.

Sometimes we find a bespoke solutions to architectural elements not only look and fit better but can also be much more cost effective and sustainable. At one of our local Richmond projects we designed this fire surrounds using Portland Stone. We chose Portland Stone for a number of reasons, firstly it reflects the external materials used on this project. Secondly, it felt more ethical using a stone from the south of England rather than importing a stone from a far-flung place. Here we used a Base Bed Portland Stone to the surround and hearth to create a crisp outline. A Roach Bed Portland Stone was chosen for the reveal to add texture and create subtle interest.

Spent the weekend in Old Hunstanton to take a few shots of our two residential projects. This is the entrance to our latest design with views through to the rear garden.
The building is a simple vernacular masonary construction with a slate roof. Flint cobblework to the north elevation is framed with steel angles. Facing brickwork set in lime mortar lines the new full height entrance hall.

Our Richmond Hill project was recently photographed.
This project involved the complete reconfiguration of the ground floor and external spaces including a new kitchen/dining extension which opens out to the re-landscaped garden and breaks through to the existing Victorian house which has been beautifully furnished by our client.
A new spiral staircase links the new roof terrace to the existing external spaces at ground level.
Thanks to all the team for a great effort.
