DAY 1 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 And he’s off! 🚴 Good luck to director Paul Shirley Smith as he embarks on his 1,500-mile cycling odyssey, visiting 100 @camlinsla projects along the way. Over the next 35 days Paul will travel through Wales, Ireland and all around England before finishing back in Shrewsbury on September 25. The #100places project, which is being supported by our long time collaborators at @hardscape_uk , is a celebration of the practice’s recent transition to becoming employee owned while an opportunity for Paul to connect with current and former collaborators along the way, reflecting on the long term impact of the places that Camlins helped to shape. On his trip Paul is also hoping to raise as much money as possible for @parkinsonsuk - link in the bio ⬆️ #100places #landscape #thinkinglandscape #bikeride #wales #journey

Very exciting to see proposals for the Orchard Yard scheme in Newcastle go out to public consultation. Orchard Yard is a proposed new residential neighbourhood in the heart of the city, consisting of 78 homes including apartments, duplexes and family homes. The development, which has been designed by Newcastle-based architects @faulknerbrowns and supported by @camlinsla , is part of the wider Founders Place regeneration in the city’s historic Stephenson Quarter. A two-day public consultation has been organised by developer @iglooregeneration where you can see a model of the scheme and the team will be on hand to chat through proposals. Where: - Farrell Centre, The Sir Terry Farrell Building, Eldon Place, Newcastle NE1 7RD When: - Wednesday 22 April, 1-5pm - Thursday 23 April, 12-5pm #newcastle #regeneration #community #landscape #consultation

We’ve had a really enjoyable planting day At Northwood & Pinner Cottage Hospital – that fantastic moment in any project when design thinking becomes reality. For this project, @camlinsla is working with NHS Property Services to help deliver a new health hub alongside 70 homes, with a masterplan and landscape strategy designed to provide high-quality green amenity for patients, staff and residents. The new Health Centre landscape is structured as a series of carefully considered garden rooms, beginning with the Memorial Garden at the entrance, moving through a threshold garden beside the main entrance, and leading to a central semi-private garden beyond, also for staff use. On any project, a great design can flourish or fail depending on the quality of the plants and the precision and care of the planting. The plants arrived in excellent condition (and on shelves!) with the scheme combining densely planted perennials with specimen evergreen shrubs, Cornus kousa and Magnolia to create immediate impact while establishing a strong long-term framework. Installation was approached with real care, from the grouping of plants to suit the scale of each bed, to ensuring smaller pot sizes were set slightly proud to avoid being lost beneath mulch. Watering and mulching were also timed and handled carefully to protect the plants in warm conditions and support the best possible establishment. A really satisfying stage to reach, and a reminder that successful planting is never just about the palette but also the detail of the delivery. @grounduplandscapes @greenwoodplants #planting #landscape #project #london

An epic afternoon bowling with all the @camlins team yesterday. Congratulations to Birmingham studio lead Sam Baker for exhibiting clear evidence of a misspent youth with a narrow victory. #teambuilding #bowling #shrewsbury #birmingham

We’re delighted to see planning permission secured for Bankside House - a major milestone for an important new development in one of London’s most distinctive and culturally significant districts. @camlinsla has been supporting @publica_studio develop the landscape strategy for the scheme, supporting the creation of a public realm that responds to the character of Bankside while helping shape a calmer, greener and more coherent place at ground level. Set in the heart of the South Bank, adjacent to Tate Modern and the Thames, this is one of the largest purpose-built student accommodation developments in central London. Alongside new homes for students, the scheme will improve pedestrian connections and create a new community hub and public café, helping strengthen the relationship between the site and the wider Bankside cultural quarter. The landscape strategy will also see the introduction of green elements at street level as well as a series of extensively-planted roof terraces, creating valuable outdoor spaces with exceptional views across London. @bouygues_construction @londonschoolofeconomics @sheppard_robson @carmodygroarke #london #development #southbank #landscape #planning

We’re delighted to welcome Laraib Khanum to the growing team at @camlinsla Birmingham. Laraib joins us as a landscape architect with nearly five years of professional experience, bringing a thoughtful, people-centred approach to design and a real passion for creating vibrant, inclusive places that connect communities with nature. Her arrival is another exciting step in the continued growth of our Birmingham studio, and reflects the calibre of talent the practice is attracting as our presence in the city goes from strength to strength. Laraib’s academic achievements include a First Class Honours degree and Distinction in MA Landscape Architecture from @mybcu with her thesis project recognised through the prestigious @landscapeinstitute John Knight Award. Laraib was drawn to Camlins by our focus on community, culture and the history of landscapes, values that strongly align with her own design outlook. With a particular interest in planting design and the role colour can play in shaping uplifting everyday environments, she brings both creativity and care to her work. We’re very pleased to have Laraib on board and look forward to seeing the contribution she will make to the team, our projects and our growing Birmingham presence. Welcome to Camlins, Laraib. #birmingham #growth #recruitment #landscapearchitecture

Our three year-out students from @covuni are currently developing Sandscapes in our Shrewsbury studio - a live design project that sees them take a sand-based landscape concept through all the @riba stages ahead of its final installation in June. Today the team headed to Talacre Beach in North Wales to explore the site, assess its suitability and test the potential of their initial concept design. Plenty of lessons learned, and a really valuable stage in shaping the project as it moves forward. It’s been a brilliant opportunity for the team to gain hands-on experience and develop their ideas in response to a real landscape and really looking forward to the final project coming together in the summer. #students #landscapearchitecture #project #yearout

Few places mean as much to a town as the Quarry does to Shrewsbury. Set in the heart of the town alongside the River Severn, it is one of Shrewsbury’s most treasured public spaces - a place for everything from everyday recreation to nationally important events. To the people of Shrewsbury it is the jewel in the town’s crown. We are hugely excited to be leading the consultant team developing a new Conservation Management Plan for the Quarry, helping to shape how this remarkable space is protected, enhanced and cared for in the years ahead. The project is about understanding what makes the Quarry so special, safeguarding that character, and identifying sensitive opportunities to ensure it remains resilient, accessible and welcoming for future generations. We are delighted to be working with a fantastic team including @berrys_uk , @bchnarchitects and other local specialists, bringing together a deep knowledge of Shrewsbury and a shared commitment to its future. This will be a major collaborative project, with consultation and engagement at its heart, and we are excited to play our part in helping secure the long-term future of such an important place. @shrewsbury_town_council #shrewsbury #heritage #landscape #quarry #park

A big welcome to Natalia Wolanska, who has joined our Birmingham studio as a Design Assistant. It’s an exciting moment for the team as we continue to grow in Birmingham, where we are building a great team with a real diversity of talent and skills. Natalia is a brilliant addition: a recent First Class BA (Hons) Architecture graduate with strong 3D modelling capability, helping to bring fresh perspective and great energy to our projects. Natalia is also a Brummie and so it’s great to welcome local talent into the studio - strengthening our roots in the city and the region. Welcome to the team, Natalia! #team #recruitment #birmingham #designer #3D #landscape #landscapearchitecture

Lovely to visit a meanwhile landscape we designed that is now firmly part of the everyday public realm in Nine Elms. At Thames City, Excel Winner decided to invest in high-quality landscape on plots earmarked for future development and the resulting interventions are looking fantastic. Designed by Camlins to be flexible, adaptable and long-lasting, the landscape has been carefully considered with permeable paving laid with open joints so it can be lifted and reused and more than 25 mature trees introduced that will eventually be transplanted across the site, continuing as part of the district’s long-term green infrastructure. A great example of how meanwhile landscapes can enhance place, wellbeing and sustainability - and become much more than ‘meanwhile’ along the way. @elitelandscapesltd #landscape #meanwhile #landscapearchitecture #design #london #publicrealm #nineelms

An enjoyable couple of days in a very muddy Netherlands (thanks to more than a foot of snow last week) tagging the trees for a beautiful extra care scheme in Kent. We were joined by Gareth Cassidy from Traad Nurseries at @huverba.nl in Opheusden to help us tag more than 200 native and non-native trees for the West Malling retirement village project. The scheme, which has been designed by @rckarchitects for Retirement Villages Group Ltd, consists of 140 extra care apartments and cottages, integrated within a range of gardens, green spaces and existing woodland with established dormouse and badger populations. The selected trees will now all be lifted and transported to the UK in three phases over the next six months. @harryt3chtile #trees #holland #netherlands #landscape #landscapearchitecture #nursery #project
