Artist + Gallery It can be difficult to grapple life as an artist, especially after finishing your undergraduate degree. This was an opportunity for our BFAs to visit and be in conversation with an artist and their gallery: Amy Bay with May Barruel at Nationale. Two incredible members of the Portland art community. We left with stories and takeaways from an artist and gallery owner who reminded us to be authentic, show up for exhibitions, and to be a part of a community that supports each other. Thank you Amy + May for speaking your truths💕 Slide 1: Amy in conversation with PsU BFAs Slide 2: Hot pink ride next to Nationale ART 498 BFA Project II Exhibitions Taught by @artistvat @erikgeschke @peery.sloan

SUGAR🔳Gallery The Sugar Cube Gallery presents: THE JOURNEYER: a three part exhibition @sugarcubebfa Part 1: Thea Gahr February 18-March 11 Dark Moon Rising 50 x 35 inches Linocut Artist Statement about the work: Rising out over the earth the dark moon speaks to grief. When the energy is eclipsed for a time. The river that grief flows in; where grief and joy are not mutually exclusive. The roots of the plant from deadly hemlock, or is it wild carrot? They invite discernment seeking to understand the ways we are in conversation with the natural world. The soft touch of the feather reminds us that there is power in lightness; gifts in the hardest times. And then again the river that is time, that is emotion, that is shaped and is shaping as it flows. There is energy and life; it is the seasons and the cycles. It is uncontrollable and uncontainable. About Thea Thea is a bilingual artist, printmaker, educator, curator, and community cultural maker. Committed to the health and balance of the land, Thea creates to inspire a catalyst of positive social and environmental change. As a longtime member of Justseeds Artists’ Cooperative, a decentralized collective of artists in greater America, Thea is interested in the brilliant and difficult experiment of working collectively and collaboratively. Through relief prints, paintings, and mixed media that show the energy of marks meant to speak directly to the emotional body, Thea invites more expansive intelligence with the hopes of provoking change for collective well-being. contact: ~ @canislatrans
