From our partners at @propsnomore : Media representation of people with disabilities is often pretty bad, so who’s getting it right? Karina Sturm, Director of Props No More, breaks down how the character of Isaac in Netflix’s “Sex Education” shows authentic representation of disability, from the casting of an actor with a disability to a detailed, three-dimensional storyline with a story arc based on romance and school, not solely on his disability. Head to the link in our bio to see the full analysis of disability representation in Sex Education! Transcript pinned in the comments.

From @PropsNoMore : What is bad disability representation in media, and how do those narratives impact disabled people? Head over to the link in our bio as Props No More Director (and TGDNN News Director) Karina Sturm breaks down “Heidi” and what this childhood classic gets wrong about disability. #Disability #Representation #Media Transcript: A cartoon girl peers out a door. Heidi kneels in the grass. Heidi, crying: “oh, Peter.” Clara: “Heidi.” Heidi looks up as the first girl takes teetering steps toward her. Heidi: “Clara?” Arms out, she rebalances with each step. Heidi: “You’re walking!” Clara stops, looks down at her feet on the grass. Clara: “I…Oh, I am?” Karina: “Did you just see that? God, I loved Heidi when I was a child, but this is a very good example for very crap representation. Man’s voice: “Now that is crap rep.” A smiling cartoon turd now frowns. Karina: Hi, my name is Karina. I’m the Director of Props No More, and I’m wearing a red dress. If you want to learn more about stereotypes in media about disabled people, or why Heidi is such bad representation, head over to YouTube and watch the full-length video.
