The route - a line that once divided, now guides us. Our journey follows an old 1874 Inland Customs Line - through rugged ground, open country and dust tracks. This is Project Salt Run. Every mile carries history. Every step brings us closer to the change we are running for. It’s challenging, meaningful and bigger than the run itself. #projectsaltrun #100marathonsin100days #theroute #india #inlandcustomsline

The question you’ve all been asking, Why are we doing Project Salt Run? In 1874 the Inland Customs Line divided people. In 2025, we’re running it to bring people together. Project Salt Run is our journey to honour the past while raising money for four incredible charities shaping a better future, for people and for the planet. #projectsaltrun #100marathonsin100days #1million #peopleandtheplanet #india #inlandcustomsline

The most inspiring stories of athletes using sport to change the world don’t always come from Olympians (as incredible as they are). They come from everyday people who decide, one morning, to do something that has no business being possible. Hannah Cox is one of those. Two years ago she had never exercised regularly. In October 2024 she ran her first marathon, and by early 2026 she was setting off to run 100 marathons in 100 days across India. @projectsaltrun follows the Inland Customs Line, a forgotten 4,000+ kilometre barrier the British East India Company built across India in the 19th century to tax salt. It runs from the Pakistan border to the Bangladesh border, was once guarded by a living thorn hedge twelve feet high, and was abandoned in 1876. Hannah is the first person in history to run its full length. On day 11, she collapsed with heat exhaustion. After that it never really let up. Extreme heat, air pollution that coated her lungs, ongoing knee and hip pain, acute gastroenteritis, a van that kept breaking down, a member of her crew ending up in hospital. The reason she ran it goes deeper than the route. Hannah’s father Deric was born in Kolkata and moved to the UK as a child. When he died in 2011 she traced her Anglo-Indian heritage back to 1799 and found ancestors who had worked for the East India Company itself. Which is why the climate piece matters so much. Project Salt Run reimagines a colonial scar as a route for climate action. Every pound Hannah raised goes to four organisations doing serious work: • Frank Water • ClientEarth • 1% for the Planet • Big Change By day 99, the shin splints had gone so deep that Hannah could barely walk. 15 kilometres took her over three hours. Her physio Alex taped her up, fitted new insoles, and on day 100 adrenaline got her the rest of the way to the border. She finished on 2 February at the India-Bangladesh border. No major sponsor, no salary, no elite training, and a body that two years ago couldn’t run five kilometres. What she had was more than 1,300 people, 100 businesses, and Ā£88,000 raised. No one in history had done it before. šŸ“· @natalielsmith_

Two years ago, I had an idea. Run 100 marathon distances in 100 days across India the country my dad came from. A word first to retrace the Inland Customs Line, a forgotten colonial boundary once used to extract the salt tax. A symbol of business taking more than it needed. And reclaim it for people and planet. So I did. 75 marathons. 23 ultras. 4,222km. 11 states. 100 days. Three pairs of shoes. One very hardworking van called Moxy. An incredible team Natalie, Alex, Joel, Asgar and Raja. I’m not an elite athlete. I only started running in May 2024. I ran through heat exhaustion, acute gastroenteritis, scoliosis and an autoimmune disease and the kindness of strangers who fed, ran and sheltered us. This was never about being perfect. It was about proving what ordinary people can do when we start, and move together. Brighton and London are the final two marathons of this story. And I’m running them fuelled by Dishoom. A business that cares. Marathon 99: Brighton Marathon Marathon 100: TCS London Marathon 🧔 Donate now to our givestar and you could win a Ā£100 Dishoom voucher. Link in bio. Catch me at the London Marathon Expo on Thursday Centre Stage, 11:15. And running on Sunday for a kinder, safer future fundraising for 1% For the Planet, Big Change, Client Earth and Frank Water as a Green Runner. #londonmarathon2026 #projectsaltrun #greenrunners

Inspired by my work on Project Salt Run, on Sunday I ran my first marathon, and although it was way more of a mental challenge than I expected, I wouldn’t change anything about it. Even the part where I got lost at the halfway mark and had to run back, adding 3 extra km to my race. That mistake felt pretty crushing at the moment, combined with my body being in overdrive and hearing one of the attendants saying my race was over and that he didn’t know if I could go back, was pretty rough to chew down. Luckily, out of panic, I doubled back as fast as I could and found the turn off I had missed. Unluckily, this burnt out a lot on the ol energy bar. After sloggin for the next couple of KM, feeling sorry for myself, I was lucky to have my wife waiting for me to cheer me on, even keeping her enthusiasm when I burst into tears just seeing her. With some words of encouragement and a tasty apple, I was back on track and able to lock in accepting that I probably won’t get an official credit, but I’m finishing this damn thing regardless. I mean, my body is gonna hurt like hell regardless, right? Somehow, I managed to speed up just enough to make it over the finish line in time to get on the charts and officially complete the Vienna City Marathon. Not saying I’m excited for another one, but the run definitely tore me down and built me back up, showing me the brick and mortar of my mind in the process, and I’m thankful for that. Might even suggest to people to give it a try. A huge thank you to @iamhannahcox , @natalielsmith_ , Alex , and @luc_baillis . My best friend, @aradd61 , @alana.buckbee for conning me into this whole thing, and of course, my wife, @beccamarsh_ , for giving me the support I needed to accomplish this. If you’re looking for inspiration on challenging yourself, check out @projectsaltrun along with the charities and organisations we have worked with, like @bigchangecharity and @thestrivecollective_ . Thanks for the shirt!

Brighton Marathon : What can I say? - Turns out you can run an entire Marathon eating Dishoom and get a PB (5 Hours 15 secs) - On the day I had the date and banana porridge from the breakfast menu, along with Akuri Pau and sweet potato wedges, followed by Vegetable Samosas on the train. Day before I carb loaded with veggie sausage and egg naan and a jackfruit biryani. All top tier. (Dishoom are long time Frank Water supporters) - Vibes were amazing. All my family came to support. Saw loads of friends running. Got rather excited to see Austyn Farrell TWICE. - Flags were a nightmare. Blinded me at 15km and I stacked it. Dishoom face tattoos and glitter was a good move. Need to wear something with my name on next time as people just kept shouting FLAG LADY at me 🤣 - Huge thanks to the Green Runners, London Marathon Events, New balance and Dishoom for supporting run 99 and 100 of Project Salt Run. Next stop, London Marathon to keep fundraising for our four amazing charities - 1% For the Planet, Frankwater, Client Earth and Big Change Donate anything this month and be in with a chance to win a Ā£100 Dishoom Gift Voucher. link in bio. New Balance….. I have a plan for you for London…. #londonmarathon2026 #brightonmarathon #greenrunners
