A challenge on the horizon,
something unctuous and simmering,
hardened exteriors meet tender insides.
Using both man-made and natural occurrences of armor as a metaphor, Smoking Meat is a hero’s journey into energetic extremes, social hierarchies, and the construction of supersized alter egos. Interweaving partnering and choreography inspired by epic fantasy worldbuilding, Smoking Meat fantasizes about larger than life bodily additions, reflects upon the commodification of bodies and attention, and questions what we give up of ourselves in the pursuit of both physical and social safety.
Smoking Meat was created in collaboration by Ashley Deran and Emily Loar, and is performed by
@projectbounddance : Kathryn Hetrick, Emily Loar, Ali Lorenz and Sarah Morimoto.
Costumes by Jeff Hancock, Sound Design by Ashley Deran, Original Text by Emily Loar, and Prop Construction by Rachel Hartmann.
