Just thinking aloud here! đ I donât necessarily think these two subjects have a direct correlation but it did feel ironic that these two events shared headlines on the same day! đ¤đđžââď¸
It was like the balance of âthe beginning of an eraâ and the âend of anotherâ and for me the personal message that I took from it was particularly borrowing hope from Diarrhaâs story and trusting that God has a track record of backdoor opportunities.
The themes that stood out to me are the seasonality of eras in life and that sometimes there is a backdoor opportunity that we may not know about and how it will fall into place at the perfect time.

Because sometimes you just need a lil creative jump start!
My friends and I decided to go to a @craftandrelease workshop at @apple âs Carnegie Library and it was just the motivation we needed to get back into our respective passions.

black history month may have ended, but black greatness never stopped!! đ¤
seen on @stjohnsu first đ! grateful to have been able to have my first client with @producedwithem be my alma mater.
one day iâll share more on the story of what it took to bring this night to life!
but until that day, iâll leave yall with a scripture that i feel like sums it up: Godâs grace is sufficient (2 Corinthians 12:9).

Look whoâs hosting again (for now đ¤)! My firmâs Chief-Of-Staff x @fola.shadee partnered together to curate a Black History Month panel centered around being âMore Than A Consultantââ yâall should already know how fitting that title alone felt to me! Being asked to moderate the panel was special for many reasons but âthe sellâ for me was getting to spotlight black employees who have dope side hustles outside of their 9-5s.
I especially was a fan of the nuance in the panel from different directors, managers and consultants and the different life experiences they pulled from. One common theme amongst the panelists is their audacity to dream & step out to actualize those dreams beyond the workplace (and I will always admire this particular narrative).
The panel really radiated black excellence and, for me, I couldnât think of a better way to close out Black History Month! đĽš
@fola.shadee youâre a great curator. Canât wait to see what else you have up your sleeve. đ¤

Hosting at the TikTok HQ: A true #ThrowbackTuesday moment (I know throwbacks used to be reserved for Thursdays, just let me cook for a moment đ§đžââď¸)
But this was one of my most cherished moments in 2023! The opportunity to host a fireside chat with a Sony Exec really came at a time where I was just trying to keep my head down and focus on helping my friends with their creative projects.
True story: I felt that at the top of 2023 God told me to help build up the callings/ passions of the people within my local community and that as far as my passions go, Heâll take care of that as long as my foundation is in Him. So that it could last.
Anyone who knows me, knows I love *nourishing and depthful* convos (i quite literally come alive the most in these moments). So hosting at the TikTok HQ with a vibrant audience and a warm speaker alongside of me was a true honor.
I donât know whatâs to come out of future hosting opportunities but I do hope that I get to be in more rooms that are as âfullâ as the room was in this moment.
Big S/O to God for sending @thedoctorthatprays & @mentormecollective to share my name in these rooms to begin with. đ
Black joy on Black History Month? My fav genre.
Some beautiful faces from our recent Mocktail Hour at St. Johnâs University.
(This is also my âwhy.â đĽš)
Fun fact: Quality marketing materials are my jam!!!
I love well-executed visuals, I love the momentum of a dynamic advertising campaign, & I love conversations around how the storytelling in media makes people feel or contributes to culture at large.
Working on the marketing materials for the Soul Cypher Remix was a fun feat because I got to partner with an in-house design studio and conceptualize how we can show up on varying St. Johnâs social media platforms.
Here are the final results! We had different dimensions for these 3 assets and the reel we did for the 3D motion graphic (pictured here in 1x1 ratio) reached *19k+ impresssions!* (Still mind boggling to me đĽš)
Looking forward to building out more things like this in the future truly!
A few months back a director from my alma mater, St. Johnâs University, let me know they wanted me to help produce a music event I created in 2019 called the âSoul Cypherâ for their Black History Month programmingâ but reimagined!
The event was on Feb 9th, 2024 and we turned it into a two part event and opened the night with a mocktail hour (pictured here) and next we delved into the Cypher part of the night (visuals coming soon lol).
I was privileged to partner with a *lovely* student organization (@wearesenyc ) and University departments (@stjohnsoma & others!) to bring this project to life. Additionally, I helped us land a partnership from Sony/ @the_orchard_ and we got to speak to their reps about careers in the music industry!
My personal favorite part about this production was working with amazing vendors x being able to create space for/ highlight black student creatives.

S/O Elizabeth for giving the students and I the space to build this vision out from inception to execution. đ
do people still do intros anymore?â imma give this a shot lol.
iâm Emem and i created this page to share some of the projects i like to take on outside of work.
my creative north star is storytelling (telling good stories) + community (the people impacted) + passion (whatâs at the heart of whatâs being built & being committed to that). Simply put :)
you might be wondering âthrough what specific creative medium?â For me, itâs whatever I feel like serves the story + community + passion/ assignment best. (So thatâs looked like producing large scale music events, supporting film projects, or ideating business plans with peers etc.)
i approach work with my faith (as a Christian) and values in mind so I try to be intentional and aligned when it comes to the projects I take on/ put my hand to.
ultimately, i just love to tell good stories and do special projects with just as special people. So Iâm hoping by sharing my work on here i can bring you all into the journey a little bit :)
till next time (which may or may not be soon) đ¤
