Dropping tomorrow for Cinco de Mayo. Couldn't have timed it better. Can you feel it? That was the question director and DP Timothy Hogan kept coming back to on this Corona Light campaign. Not "does this look like a beach?" but "does this feel like the end of a perfect beach day, cold Corona Light in hand, sun going down?" Those are different questions with very different answers. Shot for Community Films and GSD&M over two days on an LED wall at Resolution Studios in Chicago, seven setups, every choice made around a single goal: put the viewer in that moment and make them feel it. The lenses are Pentax Takumar, vintage glass from MediaBox Camera in LA. They don't render like modern glass. They warm up the flares, soften the edges just enough, and give the image a quality that reads as memory rather than advertisement. On the Blackmagic Ursa 12K, they hold sharpness where it matters while letting the light breathe around it. The light needed to feel real. An LED wall gives you the sky and the atmosphere, but it can't replicate hard specular sunlight. So Hogan hung a Godox MS60R, a small battery-powered light, in frame off the grid from threaded rods.
