➡ Remind your child it’s normal to experience strong emotions
➡ Help them challenge irrational thinking
➡ Support them in making a plan with options based on different exam results
➡ Remind them you love them unconditionally
➡ Encourage no screens an hour before bed
➡ Ensure they maintain a healthy balance of revision and relaxation

Parenting with depression can often feel isolating and overwhelming, affecting not only your own wellbeing but also your parenting and the experiences of your children.
Remember that you're not alone and there are things you can do to help:
🗣 Open communication - speak openly with your children about your mental health in ways they can understand
🧘♀️ Practice self-care - this can include maintaining a healthy diet, getting enough sleep, exercising and practicing coping strategies such as meditation
🙏 Lean on your support network - don’t hesitate to lean on friends, family or support groups. Remember, it’s ok to ask for help
✔ Maintain a consistent routine - this can range from regular mealtime, a bedtime routine, to scheduled time for homework and relaxation
💙 Be kind to yourself - it’s important to remember that you don’t have to be perfect. There will be tough days, and that’s alright

What causes postnatal depression? 🔎
There isn’t a single cause of postnatal depression. Instead, it’s usually a combination of hormonal, emotional, social and personal factors that come together around the time of pregnancy and birth.
Some of the most common factors include:
➡ Hormonal changes - after giving birth, there’s a sudden drop in hormones like oestrogen and progesterone
➡ Sleep deprivation - caring for a newborn often means disrupted sleep and long periods of exhaustion
➡ Stress and fatigue - pregnancy, birth and new parenthood can be physically and emotionally overwhelming
➡ History of depression or anxiety - if you’ve previously experienced depression, or other mental health conditions, you may be at higher risk. It can still affect people with no prior history
➡ Lack of support - not having support can make you feel isolated or alone, and can contribute to feelings of inadequacy, guilt or sadness
Postnatal depression isn’t your fault – it’s a mental health condition, and with the right support, things can get better.
