Audit your WordPress plugins this week if it has been a while. Most compromises start there. Sophisticated exploits are rarer than the headlines suggest.
The infections themselves stay quiet for weeks, which is part of why owners only discover them after the damage is well established. Clean-up is more involved than running a scanner. The most important step is identifying how the attacker got in, which is what prevents reinfection.
Prevention is mostly discipline applied in the right order, and the timeline is shorter than most owners assume.

Google Analytics now separates AI assistant traffic into its own default channel group.
Sessions from ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude no longer sit buried in Referral. They appear under a dedicated AI Assistant channel with three updated dimensions: medium, default channel group and campaign. The change applies automatically across all GA4 properties. No setup required.
Those constraints disappear with the native channel. Sessions, conversions and assisted conversions from AI sources now sit alongside Organic Search, Paid Search and Direct in standard reports. For teams running attribution models that rely on Default Channel Group, AI assistant traffic finally exists as a separate line.

If you're running B2B paid media on Google only, Microsoft Ads is worth a second look.
The user base is predominantly desktop focused, professionally minded and actively using the Microsoft work stack during working hours. Add LinkedIn targeting data and you have a platform suited to reaching decision makers when they are in the right headspace to engage.
Lower competition and cheaper clicks matter, but behaviour patterns matter more. These are not casual browsers scrolling through social feeds. They are professionals researching solutions, comparing vendors and making purchasing decisions.
Your lead funnel needs to account for that complexity.

Maritime SEO is its own discipline.
Buyer cycles in this sector run six to eighteen months. Procurement teams spend that time evaluating financial stability, operational record and regulatory standing before any conversation happens. The searches they run during that period don't show up in standard keyword tools.
Add the international layer and it gets harder. A presence in Singapore doesn't automatically carry into Hamburg, particularly with IMO compliance and regional regulation in the mix.
What compounds is sustained technical work over time, the kind that maps to how the sector procures.

Google retired FAQ rich results on 7 May 2026.
The feature stopped appearing in Search that day. Full retirement happens in August once the Search Console API removes FAQ reporting. FAQPage structured data remains valid and won't break anything, but it no longer triggers expanded listings in Google Search.
This isn't sudden. Google restricted FAQ rich results to government and health sites in August 2023. Commercial and B2B sites lost visible benefit two years ago. The 2026 change formalises what was already functionally over.
Generative summaries and AI Overviews now occupy the space FAQ panels once filled. Google moved on. Most sites should have done the same in 2023.
For teams still running FAQ blocks solely for Search, the priority is elsewhere. Structured data effort is better spent on product markup, review schema and entity signals that still influence ranking and presentation. FAQ content itself can stay if it serves users directly. The markup can be removed or left in place with no penalty either way.

Schema markup is becoming the verification layer that decides which companies get cited in AI search.
Traditional structured data describes what something is. AI search needs more. It looks at the expertise, authority and context behind a page before it cites a source.
A healthcare consultancy that marks its pages up as a consulting company, without showing the regulatory knowledge or NHS context behind the work, gets skipped when AI runs searches for authoritative sources.
Strong content is no longer enough on its own. The schema layer is where credibility gets verified now.

Last week our co-founders Paul and Nathan went to brightonSEO. and Hero Conf in Brighton, their first time at either event. They sat through two days of sessions and came back with a clearer view of where SEO and paid media are heading next.
Five themes from this year.
✓ AI search is now part of every conversation
✓ Measurement is harder than it used to be
✓ EEAT and entity SEO are non-negotiable
✓ Most searches now end without a click
✓ PPC is about feeding the algorithm better data, not pulling manual levers
We've shared everything with the wider team and are folding the takeaways into how we deliver SEO, AI SEO, paid media and content for our clients.

Most B2B marketing budgets are weighted towards acquisition.
Paid media, lead generation, outbound sales. The ratio makes sense in isolation, but the organisations that grow most sustainably are the ones that invest just as seriously in keeping people. Acquiring new clients is expensive. In most B2B sectors, winning a new account costs several times more than retaining an existing one. That gap widens as markets become more competitive.
B2B loyalty is not about habit or emotional connection. It is about trust, reliability and accumulated evidence that a supplier understands your business well enough to anticipate your needs. Buyers interact with your brand for months before a purchase decision is even on the table. During that period, they are reading your content, attending your webinars, following your channels and forming opinions about whether you understand their industry.
If you disappear from their view during those months, or if the quality of what you produce is inconsistent, they will form a relationship with a competitor who shows up more reliably. The commercial advantage compounds over time.

Most ecommerce breakdowns look unremarkable from the outside.
The checkout stopped working three weeks ago. Product pages now take 30 seconds to load. Inventory sync quietly oversells stock you don't have. None of this announces itself loudly.
WooCommerce is not a static website. It is a transaction processor, inventory manager and customer database running on WordPress core, WooCommerce updates, payment gateway protocols and plugin dependencies that shift every quarter.
When authentication requirements change or compatibility breaks between updates, you don't get a helpful error. You get broken schemas that tank search visibility, checkouts that fail on certain browsers and customers who quietly leave.
The gap between maintained and neglected WooCommerce shows up in every commercial metric. Faster loads, smoother checkouts and better search performance come from tracking updates, catching compatibility issues early and optimising continuously.
Most teams don't notice degradation until revenue drops. By then the fix costs ten times what regular maintenance would have. Performance doesn't collapse overnight. It erodes gradually while nobody is watching.

Most traffic loss during website redesigns is avoidable.
The problem is not the redesign itself. It is treating redesign as a creative project when it should be managed as a technical migration with creative output.
URLs change without redirect mapping. Navigation restructures bury established landing pages. Content consolidation removes targeting that took years to build. Hosting environments shift without load testing. Each decision makes sense in isolation. Combined, they dismantle the architecture that earned the traffic in the first place.
Redesigns fail when aesthetics are prioritised over structure. A modern interface matters. So does mobile performance. But neither justifies discarding URL hierarchy, internal linking patterns or page level authority that search engines have already validated.
Audit before you redesign. Map every URL that receives traffic or holds backlinks. Maintain information architecture unless there is a documented reason to change it. Test in staging with real data.
Traffic protection is not caution. It is recognising that website redesign is infrastructure change.

Most WordPress performance issues are structural decisions that accumulate quietly until they become unavoidable.
Shared hosting collapses under load because your site competes with dozens of others for the same resources. Database queries slow. Peak traffic stalls. Someone else's plugin consumes memory and your pages crawl.
Unoptimised images are worse. A 5MB camera file displayed at 300px width downloads the full file. Visitors on slower connections wait. Bounce rates climb. Search rankings drop because Google measures this.
Managed WordPress hosting gives you dedicated resources. Image compression reduces file sizes by 30 to 50 percent without visible quality loss. WebP formats shrink delivery further. These fixes are not optional. A slow site converts visitors into someone else's customer.
