‘Woke’
While I was making the blind embossed ‘Fuckit’ prints over the weekend I was keen to lend its quiet magic to another subject. I knew that this ’Woke’ block was quite sculptural and when placed on its side, like many of the @printers_block prints, it creates a happenstance figure from the geometry of my typeface . This is my favourite, and I call her ‘The Girl in the Lightning Hat’. Can you see her?🤍⚡️

You may as well have a ‘butcher’s’ at the little woodblocks after the big ones received such a great reception. Comprised of re-purposed laboratory table timber, offcuts of bigger blocks, good plywood, shit plywood, and a bit of old bed I think. And all this to tell a story, to raise a smile maybe, but ultimately to satisfy a deep, lifelong obsession to create. Anyway, definitely tidying up now, no more excuses! Did somebody mention tea? ❤️
‘Lofi’ solo exhibition @benoakleygallery_
Coming to @benoakleygallery_ from 9th-26th April at their wonderful new gaff in East Dulwich is my solo exhibition entitled ‘Lofi’. More details will be drip fed as we come up with some meaning to all of this but suffice to say no AI content will be on display during this period and knowing Ben any period at the gallery. @rayrichardson1 will be the first to show beginning on 12 March if you’re in the neighbourhood . ‘Lofi Sunday’ So with every new print comes the opportunity to make bespoke postcard prints, and rather aptly for these ‘wayward Suns’ (honestly I’ve got a million of ‘em!) we have the collab we’ve all been waiting for. Ok just me then. Also that mistake at the end was on purpose to show that I’m only human after all. It was!! 🙂🙏❤️
‘Lofi’ I was going to print it onto one of my old tee shirts but then I spied my shoulder bag. You see one of the nice things about being a printmaker as opposed to say a surgeon is that it’s perfectly ok to experiment on yourself. Also it had to be ‘The Velvets’, my first and most enduring ‘lofi’ love. 🖤

You know the thing about living in the moment? Well carving is the only occasion where I can guarantee it every time. Drawing is too impulsive as if I’m not even there half the time. Printing is quite stressful as the process needs to be managed. But carving slows the whole world down, and places you in the centre of it on your own with the best soundtrack in the world.
This is aptly the first carve of my year of ‘lofi’. Good luck with yours!🤎

‘Kind’
As the real tidy up gathers pace in the studio it seems that the virtual reins of my shop are heading in the opposite direction, hence orders like these ‘Kind’ prints coming from nowhere. I like it!
I actually think in some ways that kindness is more powerful than love because you can love something that might not be good, but there’s no confusion with being kind. People in positions of power like to frame kindness as weakness these days, as so called ‘strong men’ offer precious little in the way of empathy. But I’d like to think that where they are concerned karma exists even though that should never be the motivation for doing a good thing. I know, the irony of wishing bad things on bad people is probably not a great example of kindness, but hey nobody said life wasn’t complicated!🙂🙏❤️
