Hello Y’all, Please tune in Friday, April 24 at 3AM. Recently the one and only Dan Dan The Beat Man passed away. Danny was an early regular at Finyl Vinyl and when I started working there in 1988 we spent hours going through every record in the shop looking for unknown beats, breaks, and of course endlessly talking about music. Eventually he started bringing me mix tapes. Unfortunately I can only find these three. I was lucky to DJ Stepahnie Chernikowski photo show at Maxwell’s. She was super nice and incredibly sweet. I was playing records featuring her photos. While we were talking she grabbed my Cramps Gravest Hits (UK) and said, can I sign this for you? Hell yes! Planet Rock was my beginnings of a love of Hip Hop. I had the 12-inch at the time and explored anything utilizing the format and beyond. There were releases before this, but this sounded different, and It still sounds amazing to me. I met Ross Carnegie in 1998 while putting together the Grooovy Sounds Unltd and Mr Fine Wine Present Vital Organs comp. I built Ross a website and instead of money he gave me the entire run of F Minor Disco. If you own a copy, it came out of one of those four boxes. I now only have two copies of the 260 he gave me.@primitivesoundsystem #VinylRules @rovr_live @beatmann2407beats #StephanieChernikowski #RossCarnigie

Hello Y’all, this Friday March 27th at 3am my most recent program airs on ROVR live. As I mentioned in the previous post I was able to knock off my most true holy grail, Curtis Mayfield “Move On Up,” but had that score not happened my post would have been about this record. Completely unknown to me. The Blue Notes are the 1950’s Vocal Group that later became Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes. Yes the amazing vehicle for one of the greatest voices to ever sing, Mr Teddy Pendergrass. But this record is 1968 so I have no idea what the line up is. What I do know is this drummer is killing it. While going through the Stan Krause collection @collectorscum said, you should listen to that, I think it’s your sound. He was dead on. The wrong band, doing the right thing during the drug era of Chess Records. There is so much greatness here. There is a Funk era Coasters / Alvin Robinson / Bobby Blue Bland kind of thing happening. I completely understand why Stan filed this, but I am also completely confused by it. Hear this and forty some odd vinyl records lovingly transferred for your listening pleasure. @primitivesoundsystem #VinylRules @Cyclotronic @rovr_live @TheCollectionOfStanKrause

Hello Y’all. This Friday March 27th at 3AM my recent program for ROVR live will air. I was deep into my mix when Friends of Sound Dave Haffner posted his recent, “you dont have this, and you must do whatever you can to own it” list. Way down that list was my one true holy grail. This is not a record that is easily recognizable as a holy grail because it doesnt seem like it should be such a frustrating journey to add one of the greatest moments of music to be committed to wax to your collection, but trust me, it is. While going through the Greg Surek collection there were a few areas where the record should have been. After failing to find a copy I asked one of the greatest collectors I know, and who was one or the first two people to dig the collection, “Did you see a copy of “Move On Up?” He looked at me like a disappointed child on Christmas morning, “no,” he said softly. He then explained that it has also been on his list for most of his life. At that moment several deep heads in the room suddenly realized why they too do not have a copy. I am happy to say I now own a copy and it feels good. The song explodes from the grooves as the lead off track of my mix and hopefully what follows is worthy of its greatness. Thank you Mr. Mayfield. @primitivesoundsystem #VinylRules @FOSDave @rovr_live @CurtisMayfield

Hello Y’all, please join us on February 27th at 2AM for my program on ROVR. Since this is so close to my birth date we are going to stack the deck with a lot of all-time favorites. Continuing the all over the genre map format this set includes familiar sounds, manipulated sounds, and some you never knew you needed to hear. February is Mardi Gras so there is a serving of New Orleans too.The photo included here is the amazing Frankie “Love Man” Crocker most likely backed by Willie and the Mighty Magnificents since the production credits include the groups leader Willie Feaster. I have been after a copy of this for as long as @monk_uno has owned one! HAHA The song is as explosive as the title and gets your shoulders winging and head nodding immediately. The guitar pushes the track along with had claps, shouting and pounding drums. You will also notice the sticker (designed and drawn by me - @patjameslongo_artwork ), “From The Collection Of Stan R. Krause.” Stan was the mastermind behind Catamount & Stan’s Square Records in Jersey City. Known as a Doo Wop label, but definitely not limited to it. Stan passed in 2016 and for the past seven years @CollectorScum has been negotiating the terms of the purchase of Stan’s personal collection. It is final and the sticker was part of it, please follow the link and learn more about Stan. @primitivesoundsystem #primitivesoundsystem #VinylRules vinyljunkie vinyl45s RareRecords recordcollection recordcollector @rovr_live rovr_live anti_algorithm #FrankieCrocker #StanRKrause #Catamount

Hello Y’all! This Friday, January 30 at 2AM my current program on ROVR live airs. This one is filled with oddball connections including visual. Leo Jones Workshop “Fire Engine” Recorded at Junior High School 22, Lower East Side, New York City and released in 1975. Sometime in the mid 90’s I picked this LP up that I assumed was a bootleg. The cover, the label, and even the recording. This is more likely a vanity pressing that was distributed to the band, family, friends, and fans. The playing is incredible and the improvisations are beautifully executed. At the time I hoped the song “Fire Engine” used the Thirteenth Floor Elevator’s song by the same name as a starting off point but it is not(?). The piece is broken up into parts which are most likely edits to favor the best parts of the session to be included on the release. I certainly have no complaints. I hope you enjoy too. @primitivesoundsystem #primitivesoundsystem #VinylRules vinyljunkie vinyl45s #RareRecords recordcollection recordcollector @rovr_live rovr_live anti_algorithm #LeoJonesWorkshop #Mirrorsonic

Hello All! This Sunday @yespls.dj in Asbury Park - this an invitation only event, so dm yespls.dj for location info. I am honored to be one of the folks to bring you assortments from the sounds of Deep Disco, Funk, House, and more. As Adam says, “no creepy, irresponsible or disrespectful behavior will be tolerated.” I might add, except for an unhealthy worship of all things vinyl. Others handling their obsessions at the tables will be; @foggynotiondj , @fleamarketfunk , and of course our talented host @dj.adam.jay . I am definitely going to be providing some of my Funk favorites since I just want to hear them on Adam’s unbelievable sound system. The only businesses that equal this system are actual clubs and I haven’t frequented a dance club in a few days. I have been giving the records a deep cleaning so the dirt is not all you hear on these almost sixty year old records. Starting at noon and going til we just don’t wanna. Bring your own everything. Spring water will be provided. @primitivesoundsystem #primitivesoundsystem #VinylRules #FUNK45s #RareRecords

Hello Y’all, I recently visited @bororecordsfreehold in Freehold, NJ looking for the 5. 6. 7, 8’s 7-inch that includes the “Batman Theme.” Wow! I wish I knew more about what the shop was about or it wouldn’t have taken me so long to get in the bins. As I was flipping the 7-inches I noticed a label @nutonerecordings that had some very interesting looking artists and titles. Pay dirt! The label is a subsidiary of Boro Record’s label @hitiderecordings . So much great stuff from Tito Ramirez, Jason Joshua Hernandez-Rodriguez, Jazztronauts, Life of Grime, etc. Owners Magdalena and Vincent are amazing. Mining all my favorite genres and with similar tastes. I will definitely be back. Thank you Boro Records! @primitivesoundsystem #primitivesoundsystem #VinylRules #vinyl45s

Hello Y’all, my next program airs on ROVR Live January 2nd at 2AM. I am still mining a lot of new acquisitions from the amazing Greg Surek collection. What was never discussed was that from February through August I was sorting and pricing the collection for Revilla Grooves. If you were one of the smarter collectors / dealers you made time to dig during that time period. If you were a collector or dealer who believed the “collection had been gone through,” “picked over,” or “there is nothing left,” I love you lazy, self important, folks because you are the reason I love my collection and all the great records I have found when collections are deemed, done. Initially digging the collection was frantic because we were being spoon fed one of the single greatest collections to ever be available. After the frenzy I estimated the collection had gone from approximately 90,000 7-inches to 70 possibly conservatively 60,000. If this truly was the best collection ever to become publicly available, how could it be “picked over” with that many records left? Thank you to all those who gave up. For those of you who were not able to get back (for geographical or financial reasons), you may be sad to hear the remaining records were sold to a single dealer. Over the past month I have finally been able to go through, clean, sort and listen to my takes, and they are amazing. I love sharing them via these ROVR playlists. Enjoy. @primitivesoundsystem #primitivesoundsystem #VinylRules #vinyljunkie #vinyl45s #RareRecords recordcollection recordcollector @rovr_live rovr_live anti_algorithm @RevillaGrooves GregSurekCollection

Pat James Longo aka @primitivesoundsystem A few words from Pat on his new show: “One of my top wants from the Greg Surek collection was the amazing ‘Color Me’ by People In The News. A couple weeks ago in Allentown, I picked up two more long-time wants: the like-minded ‘Color Blind’ from Frank Beverley’s Raw Soul—grooving as hard as its message—and the explosive ‘Blow Your Mind’ by the Interpretations, easily one of my favorite drummer tracks. Years back, I stumbled on a Japanese 7” of Junior Wells’ ‘Watch Me Move’, one of my all-time Funk favorites—I’ve never seen another copy. And The Para-Lytics’ ‘Never Gave Up (The Funk)’ sits perfectly next to these vintage Funk gems. Enjoy!” Primitive Sound System w/ Pat James Longo Airing Live - Friday at 2AM (All Timezones) Link in Bio
