Before the city wakes, artist Claudine O’Sullivan runs. Her morning ritual is both meditation and research: gathering light, rhythm, and inspiration that will later appear on paper and canvas. We wanted this film to trace the connection between these two forms of movement - the motion of running blurring into brushstrokes.
Filmed mostly on vintage glass for its soft, dreamy character in the early winter sun. Quite forgiving when you’re a non-runner trying to focus pull.
“I’m so excited to share this collaboration with Pretend Lovers - a short film capturing my evolving art practice: fuelled by movement, grounded in process and shaped by daily running. Working with Ross and Gabrielle was a total joy - they caught the thread between running and creativity in a way that feels spot on.” - @claudine_os
From our most recent live session with @quietmaaan for his new track ‘Treading Water’ with @callumrobertwiseman .
We shot this as a one-take but also took our 7 year old’s wee camcorder along to capture b-roll for socials… might just let him film the next one!
A film for @rabbetglasgow , 571 Pollokshaws Road.
We wanted to capture Isobel’s commitment to using traditional methods. They choose a slower, more considered approach because the work deserves it. And we wanted the film to embody that same principle: something that asks you to slow down.
Honestly, it was hard to cut away from the original ten minutes of rushes, watching the process unfold in real-time was very meditative. The finished film retains a careful rhythm with the same precision Isobel has mastered in their years of practice.
Shot on rotated anamorphic lenses for the 4:5 aspect, which gives a natural compression and soft distortion. The image has texture, an analog quality that feels right for the subject.
Thanks to Isobel for trusting us with this!
Some clips of our friend Isobel in their framing shop, @rabbetglasgow . We spent some time recently documenting the work that goes into a single frame for a short, observational craft film.
Shot on rotated anamorphic lenses for a 4:5 aspect, embracing a bit of natural distortion and lens character.
