The biggest stressor to me as a captain is making a decision on the safety of the weather 12 hours in advance of departure. The safety of my passengers is my #1 priority. Last night there was really only a hint of this system coming through. Iâm sure glad I was paying attention. I cancelled todayâs charters. And it was clear at 6:30 am that it was unsafe to go out on the water. No one is impervious to lightening. I donât care how good your electronics are. @predictwind@pivotalweather #predeparture #checklist #safteyfirst #sms How many captains does it take to check the weather?

From weather routing and GRIB analysis to understanding developing systems across the Tasman and Southern Ocean, PredictWind gives the team the tools to prepare strategically and race smarter. In solo offshore racing, where sleep is limited and conditions can change rapidly, accurate forecasting and planning are critical.
For Vixen Racing, PredictWind is more than just a forecast platform - it is an essential part of how we train, prepare and compete offshore. We are incredibly grateful to PredictWind for their partnership and support of our campaign and our crew as we continue pushing offshore and creating pathways into the sport.

Weâve been watching the weather, waiting for a good window to make the 7 to 10 day trip. Weâre eager to get going, but after a rushed and pretty miserable passage from Tonga last year, weâre determined to be patient this time. So far, nothing has looked appealing, but weâve started provisioning so weâre ready to move when the right opportunity comes up.
