The first thing Manuel showed me in his Slade studio was his hoard of vintage photographs (clinically filed and numbered). Once precious (& then discarded) images made valuable again through attention.
This visit felt like a game: Manuel would hold up a leaf or a piece of cloth and ask, “can you see it?”. Then a face (or Minnie Mouse) would appear, and then finally the original image - somewhere in the folder.
His work thinks about temporary occupation: studios, storage, accumulation, and what’s left to piece together once we move on.
Manuel’s work is currently on view at @new_contemporaries 2026, South London Gallery. A must must visit!!

Across from Seihee in their shared Wimbledon studio sits Paul-Auguste, the artist featured in one of my favorite spreads from our first issue ‘Oil on Canvas’.
His work as I remembered (lines of blue) had expanded to interruptions of color - a little more mobile, a little less precise.
Reminded me of another thing I love about studio visits: witnessing the construction.

Invaded Seihee’s studio to see what she’s been thinking about since our show, ‘Private View: Oil on Canvas’ at Shreeji last October.
She showed me a little bit of everything: recent things-in-progress, experimentations even more exciting than what becomes ‘finished’, & drawings now collecting dust in archival folders (breaking my heart).
This visit reminded me of why I love snooping in studios in the first place: to see the (very fun) things that aren’t shown.
