usually, it’s the Dads who rightfully gush that they had the best Father’s Day. but my talented friend, anthony, from @illikoigoods made it the best Father’s Day that I’ve had since mine passed away over fifteen years ago.
i’ve had my father’s ties since and had no idea what to do with them. pillow? blanket? put ‘em in a frame? those options didn’t seem right. they just sat in a bag, tucked in a plastic container in every apartment i lived in from NY to SF.
i met anthony at @topodesigns in sf (rip) a handful of years ago and when he and @killur left for hawaii, shortly after, he started his own hat brand. i’ve been in awe of what he’s been creating and upcycling. his craft and creativity is phenomenal. i sent him a message about dad’s ties and he was down to give it a try. it was his first time working with silk, let alone ties. finished it just yesterday – he knocked it out of the park. even included a sweet side pocket. i can’t elaborate how much joy i’ll have wearing this special piece of art. thank you, anthony.
dad, happy Father’s Day. ma says you’d get a kick outta this hat and i know that’s true. i never really noticed, but after studying these ties, you had some undeniable style. i don’t think you ever purchased a tie after the 80s. the past couple of years have been tough and i always wish i could talk to you about everything. wish you could meet steven and tato. i’m excited to carry a part of you with me more frequently now. i love you.
Jeans + Jacket Lights for @abfits : Final.
I was honored (and excited) when Howard of AB Fits asked me to create some pieces for the shop window.
One morning, Howard texted me what felt like a haiku and prompt put together: “#1 It’s very important that you enjoy what you make. Some ideas… Jeans + jacket? …your version.” That’s all I needed. We agreed that they were to be separate items, but could be joined if desired; a full outfit. Also, they would be lights.
I more than enjoyed making this for AB Fits. It was the first time I worked with lighting to this capacity outside of my kusudamas, and won’t be the last.

i’ve been told that when i was a baby, my dad was pushing me in a stroller in a parking lot and i kept pointing and making a fuss at something sparkly and shiny far away. so we rolled by and it was a gold bracelet on the ground. my father got it fixed and wore it his whole life.
just like his ties, i’ve had his bracelet since he passed and never knew what to do with it. i never could wear it on my wrist for some reason. recently i asked my dear friends at @864_design if they could somehow make it into a necklace and ena & tats blew me away. i can’t thank them enough for making this incredibly more special to me.
After we wrapped up July’s show last year, we were already at the drawing board with theme ideas for the next one in January.
Knowing that brands will be showing their AW26 collections, Brad crystalized the idea of Robert Frost’s poem “Nothing Gold Can Stay” and its significance in The Outsiders novel and film. I remember my reaction: “say less.” + 🤩🏃♀️
I wanted to visualize the idea of how nothing gold can stay, but it can delevop a rich patina. From aged leather to faded denim to broken-in canvas – these have textures and colors that embody the passage of time. And using the “fashion” of the Greasers & Socs as a foundation, it made for some great assets.
While deep diving into the world of the film – behind the scenes, development, production, etc. – I saw the playfulness, trust and camaraderie between the cast & crew. It had me reflecting on how it feels to work with Floor13. The theme of the trade show started to feel like a representation of the team behind the show itself.
This was a very special show to work on and looking back, it was definitely a favorite. Cheers, gents – stay gold – love y’all.

Each kusudama is composed of 90 folded sheets of paper, delicately assembled to create an interactive polyhedron.
Some will be a fixture of lighting.
Some will be a tabletop object.
All are interactive and have their own potentiality to be closed, in varied phases of bloom, and full bloom.
Because of their delicate nature, each one is meticulously and carefully handmade. While a formal website is being built, DM or email Kay with inquiries, questions, etc.
