Repost @doubledagger.forever
🎵🎵 Out this Friday, Oct. 1! 🎵🎵
Sophisticated Urban Living (Contemporary Conveniences Edition) collects eleven rare and unreleased Double Dagger recordings from 2008 on a new digital-format album. (link in bio)
Recorded on a cassette 4-track in our Baltimore practice space in the Copycat Building, the album’s first nine tracks reverberate with the raw noise and energy of a DIY punk show as well as the freshness of the then-newly-written music. With vocals tracked while the lyrical ink was still wet on the paper, these recordings document the band’s songwriting process and include the first-recorded versions of many songs that would later appear on the MORE LP and the Masks EP.

From the archives: A set of stickers we made back in 2010, based on a cover illustration for @nytbooks (👉👉swipe through to see the cover).
Each of the stickers is based on themes and scenarios from the wonderful @jennifereganwriter novel A Visit from the Goon Squad. Many of the sticker designs are recognizable references to well-known and semi-obscure punk bands, with a few fun fake-band illustrations thrown into the mix. (AD: @nblechman )
11 years older and these vibes are hitting close to home today!
TBT, look at these fresh-faced lads! (ca. 2017 at the @mdffparkway grand opening) Also the only time we’ve ever gotten to wear fancy “DESIGNER” ribbons.

The dashed line plays an important visual and conceptual role in the BMA brand identity, abstractly representing the Museum as a platform for creativity and community. It is also symbolic of the evolving, dynamic nature of the Museum — a work in progress, openness, a space for participation.
The line provides the design team with a flexible graphic element for designing BMA subbrands, branded iconography, print collateral, wayfinding, and more.

Big news! The Baltimore Museum of Art has a new brand identity, which Post Typography helped develop. This exciting project was led by our partners Topos Graphics (@topos_graphics ) and Bruce Willen (@publicmechanics ), with additional design consulting by Nolen Strals (@nolen_strals ).
👉 One of the more unusual elements of this comprehensive identity system is an evolving mark that incorporates handwriting sourced from Baltimore's art community. Like the Museum itself, the “logo” will grow and change, containing the marks of thousands of Museum visitors who can contribute via an iPad app at the BMA. This expressive, evolving graphic element is part of a flexible kit of parts designed to tackle the huge variety of brand applications created by the Museum. ✍️
At the start of the process in early 2020 the BMA tasked our team with developing an approach that reflects the Museum’s new mission, centering the Baltimore community, artistic excellence, and a progressive curatorial vision.
Process, participation, concept, collection, and community all play key roles in the final result. We’re excited to see how this brand identity evolves and grows with the BMA over the coming years.

The Union Collective brand identity remixes the building’s industrial past. Geometric wall graphics suggest shelves stacked with goods and appliances ready to ship. These shapes combine into UC’s geometric-industrial stencil logo. Vibrant color and kinetic compositions represent the energy of the space’s present-day tenants.
The massive mural made from these shapes covers the back of Union Collective, transforming a drab brick wall into an unmistakable landmark.
(See previous post for a full view of the mural.)
A few years back our team at Post Typography, led by @nolen_strals and @made.by.kacie.moon , designed this 400-foot long mural (painted by @marshalladams ) that covers the back wall of Union Collective. This massive mural faces I-83, the busiest highway in Baltimore, where it punctuates the commutes of tens of thousands of drivers every day. Brightly colored larger-than-life shapes brand the building as a lively destination.

Five years ago today, Post Typography launched the revolutionary (fake) digital blanding agency Blandly. It’s been a wild ride. This legendary achievement wouldn’t have been possible without all of the industry visionaries who led the way. Cheers!

Happy 2021! We made this year-in-review illustration back in 2017 for @washingtonpost@washingtonpostdesign (in hindsight, maybe they should’ve held this one ’til 2020?)
Hope that everyone is staying well and working together towards a stronger, healthier community.
