This week at the #MakeEqualityReality Gala, we honoured the Pelicot family with the 2025 Courage Award, in recognition of their extraordinary strength and commitment to justice.
In 2024, Gisèle Pelicot waived her right to anonymity, allowing the world to bear witness to a landmark case in France for the trial of her husband and 50 other men who were found guilty of rape, attempted rape, or sexual assault over a period of nine years.
Together with her children, they continued to seek truth and accountability. They kept going, through delays, through doubt, through silence, through outdated laws, through the weight of a legal case, they stood firm then, and now as they continue the pursuit of justice for every family member.
The courage didn’t end there. Her daughter, Caroline Darian, continues to advocate for survivors of drug-facilitated sexual assault. Her son David, and grandson Nathan, accepted the award on the family’s behalf, standing in solidarity with survivors everywhere.
The Pelicot family has shown what it means to turn personal truth into public change. Their voices are part of a growing global movement to reshape justice systems, dismantle stigma, and ensure that every survivor is heard, believed, and protected.
🎥 Watch and share their story.
