Meet gabi dao! šŸ¦‡ 'The horrors persist but so do I' is on view until July 12. Admission is free. @postdao is a Canadian artist based in the Netherlands. For their solo exhibition at Z33, dao presents a new installation and short film. Hope to see you in London and Rotterdam 😈 🩸🩸🩸 "A vampiric trio facilitates the transition of a new host across a former limestone quarry and the sacred mountain grotto of Mary Magdalene, troubling the binaries of life, death, gender and parasitism. Monuments to female saints become poses of living queer memory, as skeletal remains are transformed with embellishments. A mosquito draws blood with its proboscis and hormones are drawn using a syringe, as the remnants of an extracted zone is now overgrown withĀ lifeforms.ā€

Gabi Dao, Open Studios 2025 During their residency at Jan van Eyck, gabi made two films that focus on the queer, porous, bodily exchanges between humans and these more-than-human characters. Exploring how this queerness can be a radical, sensory way of understanding and re- enchanting our relationship with our world during times of polycrisis. Their Open Studios installation brings together two films—Sweet Blood in Stagnant Waters and Resurrect Me as a Parasite, in collaboration with artist/filmmaker Lou Lou Sainsbury—alongside slip-cast ceramic bottles, limestone, and broken machinery sourced from ENCI, the First Dutch Cement Industry. These films consider kinship networks between culturally scorned figures inhabiting spaces of fantasy, horror, and reality – mosquitos and vampires, both reliant on blood for survival. The porcelain and stoneware bottles together with the films, the machinery and limestone form a ruinous constellation, exploring the correlation between the bottle, bodies, and reproduction. @postdao #janvaneyckacademie #jveopenstudios #artistinresidence #artistresidency #maastricht

🌱 ARTIST FOCUS: Gabi Dao - LAST WEEK At the Hunting Pavilion in Plantentuin Meise, Gabi Dao presents Sweet Blood in Stagnant Waters, partially filmed on-site, including the Victoria greenhouse, just beyond the view from the pavilion. Drawing on science fiction, fantasy and body horror, the new film follows mosquito-inspired research into Rubiaceae and cinchona, key to the malaria vaccine. Three cyborgs, the Angels, leave Earth for a proxy planet, pursued by a human-mosquito mutant - the unborn child of Mary. They move through dreamlike spaces: former factories, botanical landscapes, labs, archives, bedrooms, reflecting histories of colonialism and resource extraction. Dialogues explore queer, more-than-human intimacies, while fragmented, macro-cinematic visuals reveal moments of kinship and optimism amid crisis and alienation. @postdao

Duotones: A series of artists talking Talk #3: gabi dao and Rana Hamadeh Moderated by Arsalan Ishaqzai Thursday, October 2, 2025 6:30-8.30 A Tale of A Tub, Justus van Effenstraat 44, Rotterdam (š˜‹š˜¶š˜µš˜¤š˜© š˜µš˜¦š˜¹š˜µ š˜Ŗš˜Æ š˜¤š˜°š˜®š˜®š˜¦š˜Æš˜µš˜“) Join us on Thursday, October 2, for the continuation of Duotones: A Series of Artists Talking—a new program of artist talks organised by A Tale of A Tub, Studio Art Office/CBK R’dam and TENT. This time we’re switching roles: Instead of being hosted by TENT, the event will take place at A Tale of A Tub with TENT taking over the curating with Studio Art Office/CBK R’dam. Unfolding throughout 2025, the series is an attempt to put different generations of Rotterdam-based artists in conversation, wherein each talk will see two artists paired together, during which they will (casually) present their practice before a third artist will act as moderator for a conversation. More often than not, we encounter each other’s work as a finished product, presented to the public in the form of a thoroughly thought-out outcome. Given this, aside from connecting the different communities of the Rotterdam art scene—such as longtime locals and newcomers who have recently settled in the city—the goal is to also try and enter the working process while it is in development, say, having early conversations in public. Drinks and snacks will be provided and the hope is that the series becomes a social staple for many of us to finally meet.

[bįŗ”n đến chĘ”i nhĆ  / screening] Gabi Dao & Lou Lou Sainsbury Gabi @postdao , our friend from 2022, just returned back in Hanoi for a few weeks. Coming back to Hanoi after their group show in 2022 - Foliage IV at VCCA, This intimate screening is our catch up with their practice, along with Gabi’s peer and collaborator - Lou Lou Sainsbury @loulousainsbury , whose work we would also love to introduce firstly. Currently a 2025 resident in Jan van Eyck Academie (NL) and focusing on the bat in context of the COVID-19 pandemic, Gabi’s current research has expanded to thinking about other figures that are culturally scorned and occupy spaces of fantasy, horror and reality— mosquitos and vampires. Gabi has been focusing on how the ongoing, porous, bodily exchanges that humans have with these more-than-human characters can be understood as queer. Their interested in this queerness as a radical form of sensory understanding, experience, embodiment and meaning making that re-enchants our relationship with our world, stewarding a desire for a better one in the midst of varying polycrises. Meanwhile, Lou Lou focuses on making connections between spirituality, medicalisation, colonialism and technology - her tricksterish work attempts to excavate a historical and imagined past of queer and trans life within the brokenness of human and more-than-human worlds. Read more about Gabi & Lou Lou in the comments below! Join us for Aā™”CUTEā™”puncture(*)—a night of radical tenderness, vampiric poetics, and decolonial ecologies, where art pierces through the mundane to reveal worlds of queer possibility. Featuring performances, film screenings, and collective map-making, this event invites you to confront, heal, and reimagine the boundaries of body, memory, and land. ⚔ PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS 1. LUCY LAI: You Are Enough – Hair Piece: A Love Letter and Act of Rebellion German-Vietnamese artist Lucy Lai transforms the gallery into a site of feminist insurrection with a performance that unravels the paradoxes of womanhood under patriarchy. Through ritual and rebellion, You Are Enough reclaims bodily autonomy as a radical act of self-love—a defiant whisper against the noise of perfectionism and control. 2. FILM SCREENINGS: Gabi Dao & Lou Lou Sainsbury Resurrect Me as a Parasite (2025): A haunting 16mm voyage through limestone quarries and sacred grottos, where vampirism blurs life/death, gender, and parasitism. Water, blood, and stone pulse with erotic aliveness in this eco-horror fable inspired by Langston Hughes. Lucifer Falls from Heaven at Dawn (2023): A bat marionette’s odyssey through colonial mythologies, echoing the xenophobic scapegoating of COVID-19. Puppetry becomes a tool to dissect the "uncharismatic fauna" of capitalism. 3. KIM DOAN QUOC(**): Re-writing Saint Gióng + Collective Map Workshop Paris-based artist Kim Doan Quoc reimagines Vietnam’s mythic hero Saint Gióng, then invites you to join Foliating Memories—a participatory mapping of lands we fight for, grieve, or dream into being. Contribute to this living archive (credited or anonymous), which may seed a decolonial ecology publication. ✨ Why Aā™”CUTEā™”puncture? Like a needle’s sharp kiss, this event punctures dominant narratives to inject queer futures: where trauma becomes art, bats become kin, and maps become spells. Come bleed, heal, and conspire with us. šŸŽŸļø Free entry. All are welcome. However we highly recommend you buy drink and food (@Abracado vegan avail) at AQM to support out call for Gaza. (Portions of the workshop may be recorded for collaborative research; consent requested on-site.) (*) given by NgĆ¢n
