Welcome to Millieux—in all its sonic landscapes, forlorn fugues and languorous beats. We hope you like it here.
If likened to a place, Millieux—both band and album—feel vaguely like the backdrop of a shifting scene. It’s a temporary oasis after a long sojourn. Or an aural diary of someone who has definitely seen some shit, but continues to live through it—albeit with more somber, grateful eyes.
More than a side quest, Edy Varde treats Milieux like a stage for new stories told through unmistakable nods to new wave and dark wave, fringed with 80s and early 90s shoegaze. Forlorn riffs do most of the talking (words optional), paired with languid footage that give a glimpse into and through Varde’s life and eyes. Together, the tracks are a humble, life-affirming celebration of the artist’s newfound permutation of tools to tell stories with. In Varde’s words, the act of creating the record Varde likens it to himself “peddling his own medicine”.
While the visuals are ambient and familiar, the way they’re shot and stitched together feels like Varde’s signature, signing off on the scenes that show intimate details of the ordinary. Nonetheless, Varde keeps his gaze and lenses open, wandering over both the sludge of middle class Filipino living and the perpetual magic and warmth and tenderness of family and home life, honest art, music, and the erratic wonder of living.

CABIN FEVER
Hindi lang yun isolation na naranasan during ng pandemic, pero yun quieter kind ng psychological confinement din.
Mga memorya na hindi umaalis, patterns na hindi mo pinili pero natutunan mong dalhin.
Instead of getting lost sa buhay ng iba, ginawang inward yun tension, yun silence, yun weight ng mga bagay na hindi mo masabi.
let the anger sit. let the days stretch kumbaga. At yun space na iyon, chose to keep moving.
gumalaw lang kung anong meron sa loob ng bahay at bakuran. Found objects. Fragments of home. Liwanag na tumagos sa bintana. Alikabok, old toys, anino etc. anything within reach naging parte ng frame.

At yun mga mahihirap na parte ng buhay, hindi lang sila mabigat na bagahe. maari sila maging materyal (texture, ritmo o tono).
