Colour Sorting Hoops A quick 5 minute set up for post nursery today (too busy cooking tea to get photos of her playing though!) - Bear loves colour sorting our shiny carbs whenever we get them out so I decided to set this up for her to explore the many different colours and work on her fine motor skills. Offering a variety of tweezers to practice with and work on hand strength, although using her fingers is good practice of fine grasps too! What you can do with a chalk pen and a tuff tray always amazes me. Here I've created a bee inspired game for Jess to practise reading words with a b and d sound as she sometimes gets them confused. I love using our @seasidepegsandresin pegs for game pieces and Jess ran to get me a character too as I had to play as well! We rolled the dice, moved our peg and read the word. Once we got to the end Jessie did it again rolling and practising writing the word on our board. Interactive learning like this I think is great for those that don't want to sit and read a book. Small snippets of reading whilst playing a game that they can come back to again and again. 🧡💛 Daffodils 💛🧡 Bear loves daffodils (she’s very good a naming Spring flowers!) and loves spotting them in the garden so it felt only right to dedicate a set up to them. I used it as a chance sneak in some counting practice up to 5 and awareness of the number; we also made mini shakers up with the 2 different sensory bases and played ‘guess what’s inside’ as some early stage 1 phonics practice. Plus there was all the tools and pieces to just explore and play (while working on fine motor skills)! Unfortunately it was meant to coincide with a daffodil walk in some nearby gardens this afternoon but the weather was atrocious, however, Bear still enjoyed painting a picture of them with Grandma (and revisiting colour mixing theory) instead. Cherry Blossom Tree. Here's what we did: First, the boys decided to paint their salt dough life cycle models, which we had created a few days ago using apple life cycle cutters from @sensobox_pl and let them dry. We also discussed what plants need to grow. Next, they crafted lovely sensory pictures with a delightful printout from @growing_littlebrains , using colored rice and chickpeas from @mums_fun_play . Following this, they chose to construct a playdough cherry blossom tree using a versatile wooden tree tray from @pops_creativeplay and wonderfully scented playdough from @curiositycornersensorydough and pink tissue paper. As we only have one tray, they worked together beautifully, sharing materials, taking turns, and helping one another. After that, we practiced math. Charlie was counting chickpeas according to the number on a wooden board, and Max was practicing additions, subtractions, and number bonds.
