Last week was the preview night and opening of Gender stories at the Bristol museum and art gallery, which I have been working on the 3d exhibition design for alongside the graphic designer @thomisom . It is a very timely exhibition that explores personal perspectives of how people view their gender. How societal views on gender impact on individuals and how gender has been viewed by different cultures and at different points through time. Its aim is to be a supportive space to explore different perspectives and promote conversation, understanding and empathy. The exhibition has been co-curated by Helen McConnell Simpson and Steve Bradley and was developed in collaboration with gender historian Sarah Jones and communities in Bristol, Brighton and Liverpool. The exhibition contains a wide variety of art and artefacts from the collections of the Horniman Museum and Gardens, National Museums Liverpool, Brighton and Hove Museums and Bristol Museum and Art Gallery. #bristolmuseums #bristolmuseumandartgallery #brightonandhovemuseum #hornimanmuseum #liverpoolmuseum #genderstories

Lord of The Rushie River is a lesser known children’s book written and illustrated by Cicely Barker. It tells the story of a young girl, Susan who goes to live with a family of swans by a riverbank. It was inspired by a dream she had of flying on the back of a swan. This is part of the role play space I designed for the Flower Fairies The magical World of Cicely Barker exhibition and was inspired by Lord of The Rushie River. It includes a climb in nest to sit and read a selection of Cicely’s children’s books and a climb through space connecting it to a watery world inspired by Simon and the Swan. Dolls house with doors and windows to open offering glimpses of Cicely Mary Barkers childhood for Flower Fairies the Magical World of Cicely Barker at the Watts Gallery. Cicely’s parents were very keen gardeners and children can use the wooden garden pieces to create a garden around the dolls house. #thewattsgallery #cicelymarybarker #flowerfairies #kidsmuseums #designforkids #designforchildren #museumdesign

Last week was the opening of Flower Fairies the magical world of Cicely Barker that I have been designing with my brother @i_know_george for the Watts Gallery. It is a family friendly exhibition that explores the life of Cicely Barker and includes lots of work that has never been exhibited before. There are drawing activities, a dolls house to explore, dressing up and role play activities and opportunities to play with words and look close up at Cicely Barkers work. If you’ve never visited the Watts gallery I really recommend a visit it’s a hidden gem. #wattsgallery #wattsgalleryartistsvillage #flowerfairies #cicelymarybarker #childrensexhibitions #kidsmuseum

I’ve recently been working on the exhibition design for the racial injustice and environmental protest exhibition in the People gallery at MShed, that features the Colston statue. The brief for this exhibition was developed in consultation with local people and through a working group of local academics, historians, activists and community leaders. It’s been great working with the team at MShed and the graphic designers at Bristol design. It has been a very thought provoking exhibition to work on. #mshed #bristoldesign #protestdesign
