It’s been a long journey getting this kīko’o done but it’s worth the time.

Okay enough of the clown show fukin up everyone’s life in the world. Working at retuning to the flow, by just working on 2 kīko’o (1 is Dakota’s), 2 Omo, 1 Paha, and a few others. Yesterday’s work and today was killaz. 🌊😎💯❤️

I haven’t been on social media for a while by choice. It’s been nice to take a break from things. The weather has also forced me to take some down time from work, thankfully, while it’s been very wet at our place, we didn’t have flooding that other parts of the islands have had to deal with. These down times allow room to think creatively. While cleaning up the workspace after all the rain, I came up with an idea for a new project using a bunch of left over pieces of wood. I hate getting rid of scraps, I always say I can make something with it. Looks like I’m finally following through on that. In the end why waste material, we work with what we have to create a ride to enjoy. I’ve got a few things that are near to completion, so I’m using this excitement of trying something different to help push me through what’s turned into a bit a work slump. Wish me luck!

Grateful to have collaborated with @pohatu on an authentic Alaia surfboard for @kingsandqueens_hawaii . Tom Pōhaku Stone is a renowned Native Hawaiian surfboard shaper, educator, and former pro surfer, preserving traditional Hawaiian cultural practices like papa he‘enalu and hōlua. Working alongside him on this project has been an honor.

Hidden for years- carved lettering D U K E With a healthy dose of skepticism Tom @pohatu joined FSLSC history caretaker, Eric, to examine the board for authenticity. There have been many claims of a Duke board around the world but most turn out to be replicas. With a Masters degree in the field, Tom consults around the world with museums, galleries and historic displays on the cultural aspects and authenticity of artefacts. He is the expert to determine the truth. Following the wood grain, ignoring the decorative redressing and repairs that had occurred over 100+years, Tom’s delight was contagious- the moment of realisation that beneath the polish, varnish and sanding over the years there is carved lettering D U K E “Killaz” from Tom and a quiet f-bmb heard in the room as those familiar with the board saw for the first time where the shadow of the lettering lay hidden. A magic moment to witness. Authenticity confirmed by the expert. @gohawaiiau @hawaiianairlines @kiigirl @naomid_surfnome @nomesnay @myseekingwanderlust @jemmapigott

At Duke Day, Hawaiian cultural practitioner Tom Pōhaku Stone reflected on the Pacific ties forged when Duke Paoa Kahanamoku first came to Freshwater in northern Sydney more than a century ago, something that still shapes surfing today. 🌊

Former pro-surfer Tom Pohaku Stone Pohaku is said to have single-handedly revitalized the extreme sport of heʻehōlua (Hawaiian mountain sledding) Extreme! 🌋 @pohatu is a waterman, craftsman and educator who has dedicated his life to Hawaiian surfing 🏄‍♂️ and perfecting the art of crafting papaheenalu (surfboards) in the traditional Hawaiian way. 💚 He has made one of these stunning boards to gift to Cecil Healy’s family in honor of the bond shared with Duke Kahanamoku. Each board Tom crafts is created with a respect for nature and a deep understanding of the ocean’s power and rhythms.
