A scientific conference Resist held in July 2025 in Paris. It was organised jointly by the Society for French Historical Studies, the Western Society for French History, and the Society for the Study of French History, in collaboration with the Association for the Study of Modern & Contemporary France, the George Rudé Society, and H-France.
Bringing together historiographical approaches from cultural, social, and political history—spanning the ancient, medieval, modern, and contemporary worlds—this international gathering sought to shape resistance as a new object of historical inquiry. It explored how different eras, places, and cultures have defined, experienced, and theorised what it means to resist.
Design
The visual identity created for RESIST reflects this intellectual ambition through a raw, bold, black-and-white aesthetic. Its visual language draws inspiration from brutalist urban posters, flyers, and stickers traditionally used by underground movements to express dissent.
Like handmade protest banners, the identity is grounded in assertive typography. The conference logo symbolically captures the essence of resistance—expressing the force of claiming space, asserting presence, and refusing erasure.
