Recently, PAYETTE was selected as 1 of 5 finalists for A Bauhaus Bathroom at the Gropius House, from 280+ submissions across 40+ countries.
Our proposal places a new public restroom beside the historic garage, treating it not as an object, but as part of the arrival sequence to the site. A straight wall organizes movement from the visitor center; a curved, translucent volume gathers entry, waiting, and turning before releasing visitors toward the house.
Inside, dark durable surfaces meet a luminous upper zone, drawing from Gropius’s own use of contrast, color, and diffuse light.

Tanya Bonakdar Gallery Office Renovation, 2015. We designed this gallery in West Chelsea in 1998, and when it came time to renovate the offices we wanted to bring a freshness without erasing too much of the raw existing gallery.
We fabricated bookshelves and desks out of a white powder coated plate steel so that we could feature the colorful art book library (itself a work of art) and have desks appear to float.

At The Fifth XiangYa Hospital, each of the 2,500 patient rooms features a precisely calibrated window box that balances energy performance with human experience.
Rigorous building energy analysis drove the geometry of the window shade, but in order to understand the patient experience, we decided to vet the design at full-scale. The mock-up allowed the team to test dimensions and relationships in order to create a occupiable window that supports a range of uses for both patients and caregivers.

In continuing our support of arts programming in Boston Schools, the PAYETTE fabrication team partnered with @eliotk8school on their upcoming production of Frozen Jr. ❄️
The set was designed with Eliot families and faculty and built in our shop using digital fabrication tools. More than 50 talented students, families, and faculty joined us for a community paint day!

Continuing our ongoing support of arts programming in Boston Public Schools, the PAYETTE Fabrication team partnered with Bridge Boston Charter School on their production of ‘Aladdin Jr.’
The PAYETTE team worked with director Adia Vellaccio, Izilda Monteiro, Kim Wang and other BBCS faculty to design the stage set. The lavish backdrop included elements like a Sultan’s Palace, the Market Place, and the towering entrance to the Cave of Wonder.

The Black Panther Commemoration project uses public art to highlight the local history of social-justice activism. Payette and our long-time collaborators at Beyond Walls teamed with the Trustees, the largest nonprofit owner of community gardens in Boston, and the Social Impact Collective to support a community-led initiative in Roxbury, Massachusetts. Project artists Killion Mokwete (SIC, Northeastern) and Parke MacDowell worked with students and neighborhood residents to develop and execute the project.

Our custom blackened steel adjustable shelving appears in various configurations throughout the new @payettepeople farm-stand at @landssake farm. Our fab team installed these systems, along with other architectural metal elements including lighting shrouds, gutters, stainless accents, and furniture. Payette’s components are coordinated with some lovely metal pieces by our friends at @concentricfab too.
