No, this is not April Fools… A FLOATING POOL IS COMING TO THE EAST RIVER
We met up with the team actually making it happen @pluspoolny
They’re building a real pool that floats in the river and filters the water so people can actually swim in it safely. First section is already in the works. @newyorkers.live
Need a pool? Donjon Marine was honored to be part of this lift for @pluspoolny to start the project off on the right foot! #donjonmarine #chesapeake1000 #tugboat #tugboatsdaily #merchantmarine #heavylift #poolplusny #pool #crane #insta360x3
It’s #internationalwatersafetyday and we want to give a big shoutout and thank you to our + POOL Bluefish Swim Instructors carrying the tradition of teaching kids to be water safe. Formal swim instruction reduces the risk of drowning, but for many NYC families the cost of lessons keeps these opportunities out of reach.
That’s why + POOL has been committed to giving free summer lessons to kids who need it most since 2016. Want to get involved and swim to support this year’s program by swimming 100 laps on June 25th? Slide into our DMs or send an email to [email protected]

Gala Time! It's the Final Countdown!!!
The countdown is ON. Less than one month until the + POOL Gala.
On June 8 we’re gathering at WSA to celebrate the launch of POOL1, expand swim access for NYC youth, and toast everyone helping reconnect New Yorkers to the water around us.
Huge gratitude to our early supporters: )

🌎 🌆 Swimmable Cities Substack - Publicity & New Competitiveness Advantages
We’ve harnessed different techniques to unlock the power of publicity for existing and aspiring swimmable cities. While it might be tempting to continually beat the drum of waterways never being clean enough, and political leaders never being bold enough, we favour ‘progress over perfection’ and the ‘carrot’ over the ‘stick’.

As part of our capacity building efforts we were able to offer one of our Bluefish after school lifeguards, Lucas, the chance to become an instructor after he was inspired seeing the instructors in the program. Today he teaching his first class!
Nice group formation, so he can see and respond to everyone. That’s all part of @americanredcross WSI training.

We had an incredible time at the @nysunworks 15th Annual Discovering Sustainability Science Youth Conference!
Our team was proud to present + POOL’s mission and share how innovation, environmental science, and community action can help build a cleaner, more sustainable future. Connecting with students, educators, and fellow changemakers was an inspiring reminder that the next generation is ready to lead. We saw students studying microplastics in soil, building apps for urban farming and stimulating photosynthesis, to name a few.
Thank you to NY Sun Works for having us—we’re always excited to help empower young minds through sustainability, water science, and big ideas.

Huge thanks to our 16 incredible volunteers with our East River Trash Club who joined us at Pier 35 this past weekend for the @riverkeeper Statewide Riversweep! Together, we helped protect NYC’s waterfront, clear harmful debris from the shoreline, and prove that small actions create real impact.
Our wildest find? Enough car parts to practically open our own auto body shop.
Are you part of a group that wants to join us for an East River Trash Club event over the summer? Write to [email protected] to get involved.
