“Проба, грешка, превъплъщение” София Грънчарова Проектът изследва тялото като временен носител на идентичност – протеза на неспокойното съзнание, което непрестанно търси форма, за да се разпознае в света. Произлизайки от разговори с хора за техните татуировки, работата събира фрагменти от чужди причини и мотиви за татуиране, които се прехвърлят върху тялото на автора чрез временни татуировки. Така то се превръща в повърхност за проекция на възможни животи – място, където идентичността се преживява като серия от проби, грешки и превъплъщения. Обектите от силикон, хартия, метал и стъкло материализират това напрежение между трайно и преходно, между плът и знак, а татуирането се превръща в ритуал на самоутвърждаване. Emerging from conversations with people about their tattoos, the work gathers fragments of others’ reasons and motivations for tattooing, which are transferred onto the artist’s body through temporary tattoos. In this way, it becomes a surface for the projection of possible lives – a place where identity is experienced as a series of trials, errors, and transformations. The objects made of silicone, paper, metal, and glass materialize this tension between the permanent and the transient, between flesh and sign, while tattooing becomes a ritual of self-affirmation. The eleven artists explore the inner battles each person wages in the search for self, while consciously or unconsciously shaping carefully maintained social avatars. The Slave Market There are three large-size photos, depicting auctions of women. In two of them, the auctioneers are wearing antique himation, while the bidders are clothed rather contemporary. Whereas the women are mostly undressed and they are evidently ashamed. In these photos, the artist reinterprets paintings by Jean-Léon Gérôme from the second half of the 19th century. With his style of the academic realism, the French artist displayed the current scientific state of knowledge about antiquity. Once again, tradition and modernity meet. The paintings are transferred into a contemporary medium: photography. Moreover, Nasr changes the perspective: while Gérôme displayed the European idea of oriental behaviour, the Egypt artist looks at European art history from his position.

In Petro Beads, Moataz Nasr strings together perforated and illuminated gas containers to form an oversized strand of prayer beads. The industrial tanks — symbols of fossil fuel wealth and global energy economies — are transformed into objects associated with religious devotion, creating a powerful visual metaphor for the relationship between petro-capital and religion. The containers are carefully perforated and painted, allowing the light inside to glow outward and cast patterns reminiscent of traditional metal lamps found across North Africa and the Middle East. Although made from recycled industrial materials, the work recalls long-standing artisanal traditions and devotional objects used in spiritual rituals. This transformation from utilitarian gas vessels into luminous beads creates a striking tension between industry and spirituality. By merging these two worlds, Nasr reflects on how economic power derived from natural resources can shape religious institutions and practices. At the same time, the light glowing from within the containers suggests that spirituality itself persists, even when surrounded by structures of power and wealth. #tocollectcontemporary.art

Part of the ongoing series “Common Place,” these works were produced during the artist’s expedition through Eastern Europe, painted in motion on a specially constructed structure mounted on his car to support an easel. Depicting seemingly mundane landscapes—sewage systems, small-town churches, panel housing blocks, and lakeshores—the series quietly negotiates the tension between the human drive toward classification and judgment and immediacy, speed, and impulse.
