For the last two editions, our Future Coffee box has been focussed on species that have the genetic potential for providing alternatives to our current coffee crop mainstays, Arabica and Robusta. This year, we take things a step further and present rare and new interspecies hybrids, alongside some of their parental species, and one of the rarest coffees in the world. This is the first public presentation of Coffea × libex (Libex) a newly identified hybrid between Liberica and Excelsa, alongside the Tree Coffee Hybrid (Excelsa × Arabica) and Aramosa (Racemosa × Arabica) making it a unique opportunity to try some truly singular coffees.
We will be brewing these super rare coffees between 10:00 - 12:00 on Thursday and Friday, joined by friends Komal and Pannaga from South India Coffee Company and Dr Aaron Davis from the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew (Friday only) who will be happy to answer your questions regarding the new research paper on Libex coffee, hybridisation, and the future of coffee.
We will have a limited number of Future Coffee box sets available each morning and will hold a few back for sale on the website after the festival.
Get them while you can!
Plot @ LCF
Throughout the festival we’ll be brewing coffees from the latest Future Coffee release alongside guest brews and conversations with friends from across the industry, including South India Coffee Company, Dr Aaron Davis, Coffee Bar Collective, Snoozzze, and Moonstruck

Is this one of the best coffees we’ve ever tried from Peru? Damn, we didn’t think it was possible to fall more in love with this often underrated origin. This washed Gesha from a young producer is so good it took first place in the Best of Cajamarca competition and earned Yulisa a record-breaking price at auction. The lot is beautifully complex, showing some of the highly prized characteristics typical of the Gesha variety. We taste stone fruit like apricot, juicy citrus reminiscent of fresh lime, a heady jasmine-like florality, and a deep brown sugar sweetness.
Have you tried this yet? We have a little remaining of this stellar lot from Yemen.
Yemen is famed as the first country to grow coffee commercially and is home to some pretty unique cup profiles, partly due to the varieties that have developed and mutated there over the centuries. This lot is from Jarma, an extremely high-altitude village in Haraz, one of the regions that produces some of our favourite coffees from this country. This delightful cup shows juicy cranberry and pink grapefruit flavours, balanced by tropical fruit notes and a rich sweetness reminiscent of dried fruits and honey.
