Playwriter - Everyday
Sometimes it feels like everyone’s got life figured out except me. Don't get me wrong, I'm doing pretty well for myself, but I can't help but feel like something is missing. The debut EP from Plymouth-based indie dream-rock quartet Playwriter (
@playwritermusic ) taps right into that feeling, capturing the quiet uncertainty of just trying to keep things together while everything around you keeps moving. Entitled 'Everyday', this four-track release sits nearly within that space between indie rock and dream-pop, but naturally pulls from both sides to create a joyfully atmospheric soundscape. That approach really shines across the tracklist, with each song offering up a different plate of instrumental and lyrical emotion. ‘Still There’ immediately sets the tone with its gentle, introspective build; shimmering guitar lines and soft percussion create a sense of quiet momentum that continues throughout. Following that is ‘Melt’, which leans further into that depth, layering reverb-soaked tones that feel expansive and grandiose without ever losing the intended intimacy. Another stand-out is ‘Me and You’ that balances that same emotional sensitivity, talking about partnership and loyalty, with a slightly more direct melodic pull sonically. It grounds the EP in something that feels both personal and accessible before heading into the lengthy denouement that is 'Is This It'. At over five minutes, this closer combines every trick in the dream-pop book; be it the way its guitar line lingers or how the overarching rhythm subtly echoes, everything we know and love about Playwriter is in here. 'Everyday' is not a record built on big, obvious moments, but instead focuses on the vestigial parts of our lives. It’s a sound built on life's nuances, and it's all the better for it.
