Hailing from the singularly vibrant musical hotbed known as Chicago, CHEER-ACCIDENT has been a creative, vital force in rock music for over 30 years. They constantly strive to surprise their audiences and themselves through relentless reinvention. From dreamy pop to angular art-rock, CHEER-ACCIDENT strikes a powerful balance between personalized and unique studio wizardry and the visceral excitement of a well-honed, explosive live rock band. The band is currently a septet, comprising of various members who have come and gone throughout the past two decades. Their body of work is unparalleled in its ambition and originality, and their most recent releases, “Putting Off Death” and “Here Comes The Sunset” (to name just two, on Cuneiform and Skin Graft, respectively) demonstrate how the band continues to improve with each passing year.

PlayTime presents: Souled American Like a secret that can be kept no longer, the elusive & influential Souled American make a rare East Coast appearance to promote the 30th Anniversary reissues of their records FROZEN and NOTES CAMPFIRE. The band began in Chicago in 1986, hybridizing traditional roots music with rock & roll to pioneer a style later celebrated as “alternative country.” They recorded 64 songs between 1988 and 1996, a legendary body of work that has been unavailable for decades and is only now receiving the attention it has long deserved. . Still floating on air after Saturday’s Jandek show at Widow Jane Mine, presented by PlayTime. It was something of a dream to see a @jandektales performance in such a raw subterranean setting, but the results far exceeded my hopes — it was a truly magical experience. From the moment The Representative from Corwood walked on stage telling me “I’m a cave dweller” with a spark in his penetrating pale blue eyes, I knew we were in for something special. It was a pleasure and privelege to work with @veganloca and Sterling to see how the two of them meshed together, a splendid couple and endlessly fascinating performers. Janet Wygal’s spacious bass playing and Toby Goodshank’s restlessly insistent drumming completed the combo with seemingly effortless grace. Many thanks to all who came, everyone who shared their excellent photos (particularly Christopher Bruno.
