All Play, schooled. learning experiences aim to engage us as embodied learners - with a focus on and embracing of the mind, body and soul. We experience the world around us through our entire beings, we sense, learn and interact with the world with our entire being. Through the creating of a safe space to be silly and quirky, the playing of games that allow us to laugh and grow together, and finally the encouraging of dialogical and inclusive exchanges, I hope that each of us will be inspired to become the lifelong learners we were made to be. đź’•

“Being Inspired by...Drawing” is a workshop that is very much inspired by my own love for drawing as a playful act that can and should bring much joy, laughter, discovery and FUN. In this learning experience we explore the act and art of drawing through sensory games that engage the whole body. The goal is to also discover more about the unique marks that each of us makes in this world. Just as our handwriting can tell a lot about our personal stories and styles, drawing can tell a lot about how we, as individuals, respond and interact to the world around us.

One of the comments I received recently was that it is hard to describe exactly what the @play.schooled workshops are. And I wholly agree, this is true. It has been a personal conviction to design and offer learning experiences that are different and an alternative to conventional forms of education - not because I reject them but because I’d like to complement and help fill gaps. So it will take time and it’s surely a work in progress and it’s always scary to set out to try something new and unfamiliar, but slowly and with time, it will be easier to fully describe and define what these learning experiences are and I’m excited to see how they grow and evolve. 💕

Last Saturday’s workshop, “Being Inspired by...Taking A Walk”, was a wonderful start to @play.schooled ’s learning experiences. We learned a lot together about how to be present in the moment and to frame our observations in a manner that is unique and aesthetically pleasing as well. Am thankful for the feedback and active participation; these learning experiences would not be complete without each and every one of you. More workshops to come in April so do stay tuned! Collecting feedback from last weekend’s participants before revising and releasing the new workshops. 💕

Really excited (and nervous hehe) about this coming weekend’s inaugural workshops! But it’s truly a dream come true to be able to meet and share with you in person so stay tuned for more learning experiences! And yes, I am eventually planning to do online workshops/sessions too. 💕

Knowing I don’t know YET...has always inspired me to be curious to find out for myself. The most important life lesson I’ve learnt through being a student of Literature has been how to formulate and ask questions that push me to find out/learn more and in the process, challenge my boundaries and expand my horizons. It’s something that keeps me actively mulling and pondering in daily life and has taught me perseverance and resilience. 💕

What is magic to each of us may differ based on our personal lenses, but there is wonder to be found in diversity regardless. đź’•

Being Inspired By...Drawing In this learning experience, I will share how drawing is the foundation of my artistic journey and how it has helped me evolve as an Artist. This learning experience is especially for those of us who are curious about developing confidence in their relationship with drawing. You do not need to believe that you know how to draw to join and in fact, if drawing has always challenged, scared or eluded you, this workshop is for you. We will: - reflect on our personal connection (of lack thereof) with drawing, - discuss setbacks, mindsets and challenges in our relationship with drawing, - briefly touch on the history of drawing and its role in our daily lives, - learn about the anatomy of drawings, - explore how drawing can relate to other media and crafts, - explore how drawing can relate to finding your own personal style, - share our thoughts, opinions and learn from one another, and of course, have some fun and play together while we're at it! Date: Saturday, 27 March 2021 Time: 3.00pm - 6.00pm Venue: @pigpighooray Studio Fee: $80 Attire: Come dressed comfortably. This workshop will be conducted fully indoors but will involve some simple moving around as part of the activities. Please bring: A reference photo or image of your choice. You can use photos you've taken yourself or taken from the internet. It does not need to be an original image. Hard or soft copies are both okay. —- 8 pax per workshop and slots open tonight at 9pm SGT on the @play.though website!

There were two big reasons why I left my full-time teaching job back in December 2018. One was to further my studies and to explore alternative ways and forms of education, and the second was to take what I had been honing and brewing inside my heart and mind for years as an educator and start something of my own: a new and uncommon way of looking at and approaching learning, not for children, but for adults. I want to re-introduce the idea that being creative and having fun and living life a a curious lifelong learner does not need to stop when we grow up or when we leave the period of time where it is socially acceptable to call ourselves students. As an Artist who has been practising since her early childhood days, I've learnt that it's not about asking myself where to find inspiration, it's about asking myself how to find it. Whenever people ask me, "Where do you get your inspiration?" the short answer is "From everywhere, from life in general". But what does that really mean? And how can we truly learn how to find inspiration from daily life? The "Being Inspired By..." series is designed for anyone who finds themselves in needing a push in the realm of finding inspiration or a reminder in how we can be lifelong learners through playful exploration of the world around us. I hope to see you in a workshop (or two?) soon so we can play and learn together! đź’•
