Personal branding is having a breakdown. The knobs in the image control rooms are snapping off and visibility machines are overheating. Now, who’s winning the fame game?
It’s no longer those desperately seeking to control their narrative. It’s those who drop the old toolkits, accept the fragility of public appeal, and build creative experimentation (and room for failure) into their strategies.
I see tons of seasoned personal branding pros clarifying their focus and adjusting the way they offer and articulate their work (myself included!). That shift reflects a broader change in the creator economy — or what I prefer to call the *personality industry* — at large. Attention is still valuable, but trust and resonance are worth more, and they happen to be harder to cultivate.
This means public figures — whether full-time creators, front-facing execs, or high-visibility talent — are navigating an added layer of complexity in the market. The challenge isn’t just about breaking through digital noise. It’s also staying on the public’s good side and maintaining brand integrity with shrinking control.
The current brandscape favors the prepared, not the polished. ✨

It’s giving HGTV, but for digital real estate. 📺
I recently shared that I’m building a platform off social to connect with my people and house my IP. Consider it a virtual migration away from crowded city centers (mainstream social) and into the burbs (my own online broadcast channel).
Why? Because I don’t believe in the statement, “The internet isn’t a real place.” The environment may not be tangible, but it’s real, and so are its effects on what we know, what we think, how we behave, and how we see ourselves and others, not to mention the way capital circulates globally. After 12 years working in digital marketing and a lifetime staring at media on screens, I find it socially irresponsible to minimize the impact of our time and participation online.
Still, we often treat the internet like it’s not a real place. We forego social decorum and pollute it with wasteful content because the consequences don’t seem to pose an immediate threat. Yet, I wonder how the internet might feel if we approached it with a sustainability mindset — dispersed our energy and attention across other platforms rather than concentrating in the same locations, divested from algorithms rather than complaining about them or adjusting to appease them, shifted our gaze away from quantifiable community and started gathering intentionally. Just like environmentalism efforts for our physical world, galvanizing enough people to care AND change feels near impossible.
But every significant cultural transformation starts that way. It takes folks who are willing to at least explore what’s possible. Join me as I do just that, starting with Channel Bri.
