Talk shows raised me. ✨ But they’ve lost their luster over the years. So when I found @iamscottevans ’ 🏠 House Guest, I knew I was watching the talk format evolve in real time. It’s warm, playful, and premium — and in a space full of talking heads, it reminds us what a real host looks like. In my latest PlatformThis! piece, I break down why House Guest feels like the blueprint for what I call “Light Time Talk” and why streaming platforms and brands should be paying close attention. Meet Briaan L. Barron — CEO & Chief Strategist at Heye Frequency, and one of the speakers we are so excited to welcome to Labour Temple for our weekly Go-to-Market Masterclass. Bri’s session, Show Up Unexpected, is for the non-traditional founders who are building their own entry points into the startup ecosystem — without the pedigree, the technical background, or the wealthy network to lean on. She’ll be breaking down how to turn your story into strategy, build proximity to opportunity on purpose, and translate your message across every room — from a VC pitch to a crowd of supporters ready to back your vision. Your story is your greatest asset. Bri is going to show you how to use it. 📅 May 6, 2026 | 11:30 AM to 1 PM 📍 Labour Temple | 2800 1st Avenue 🔗 Link in bio to register

I assumed I didn’t belong in tech, and that almost cost me my career. Before 2019, I had built a strong foundation across nonprofit marketing, consumer product branding, and creative strategy. I was clear on my lane and comfortable in it. Tech wasn’t part of the plan. Then an idea came to me that I couldn’t ignore for a UGC-driven streaming platform for DIY beauty, haircare, and personal care for melanated communities. Building it forced me into a world I didn’t think I belonged in. Over the next 3 years, everything shifted. Not just what I was building, but how I saw myself. Now, here’s the truth: my instinct wasn’t random. The startup ecosystem does signal who belongs—through pedigree, networks, and pattern recognition. I didn’t match the profile. Black woman. Liberal arts background. No tech experience. No built-in access. But I made specific moves that helped me get in the rooms, learn fast, and start taking myself seriously as a founder. Even though I eventually sunset that company, that experience changed the trajectory of my career, and directly informs how I lead today. So I want to talk about it. Candidly and practically. If you’re a non-traditional founder, or someone sitting on an idea you haven’t taken seriously yet, this is for you. “Show Up Unexpected: How Non-Traditional Founders Break Through to Funders and Fans” 📍 Labour Temple | 2800 1st Ave Seattle, WA 98121 🗓 Wednesday, May 6 ⏰ 11:30 AM - 1 PM PT Hosted with Marcus Knight (@mrknight83 ) as part of his Go-To-Market Masterclass series. FREE to attend—register at the link in my 🌲 link tree. See you in the room! #brieo #HeyeFrequency #labourtemple #GTMMasterclass

here we go with this again. another wave of critique about what they should’ve said and how they should’ve said it. and yes—critical inquiry matters. we should question ideas and narratives, especially from those who steward public platforms. but at a certain point, it stops being inquiry… and becomes a loop. we’re not just reacting, we’re participating in a system that rewards clarity over complexity and performance over depth. so it’s easy to confuse proximity with contribution and to position ourselves as more aware and “correct,” without holding the same stakes. my question is where’s the threshold? when does critique shift from constructive → to corrosive? full piece on platformthis! → link in bio #brieo #platformthis #publicleadership #emmagrede #coachstormy

You’ve *been* good. And knowing that is key to commanding your worth. People love to say: “Your early work should make you cringe.” I understand the intention. It gives you permission to start before you feel ready, and it softens perfectionism. But I have a different experience. When I look back at my early work, I don’t cringe. I see care, intention, and someone who took the craft seriously from the beginning. Of course, I see things I’d do differently now. But more than anything, I see quality and thoughtfulness. I’ve held a certain standard for a long time, and there’s significant value in that. For a lot of creatives—especially those of us working in spaces where value isn’t always easy to quantify—looking back and acknowledging how good you’ve been is evidence, not ego. Evidence of: * time invested * taste developed * perspective sharpened * standards upheld Growth isn’t always about going from bad to good. Sometimes it’s about going from good to unmistakable. That distinction matters when you’re in rooms where you have to translate your value to people who control capital, opportunity, and access. Humility has utility. But so do receipts. You need the ability to say: “I’ve been bringing this level of care to my work for a long time. And that consistency is part of the value.” The work should speak for itself. But you also have to speak for the work. So yes, release perfectionism. Start before you feel ready. But don’t skip the other part: Look back. Acknowledge your standard. Name your strengths. Own your track record. Because sometimes the most powerful thing you can say is: “I’ve been good at this.” #brieo #creativegusto #authorship #executivepresence #leadership

Creators have vision. Creative leaders relay their vision. If you’re making premium content without a full creative team, you can still build a public presence with big team energy. The layer most people skip is thorough brand development AND communication with their creative implementation partners. In Part 1 of this mini-series, I walk through: + How I use my evergreen brand palette as a foundation + How I expand into a seasonal color story (spring/summer) + Why every color in my palette has meaning, not just aesthetic appeal + How color choices shape the feeling, tone, and narrative of your images This is the difference between content that looks “good” and content that feels intentional, cohesive, and well-directed.
