Alice is our award winning new artist in residence explores repetition, rhythm, and time through everyday materials and actions. By working with simple, familiar processes she highlight subtle shifts and invites closer attention to ordinary moments, observing how time is experienced through the body and environment, beyond technological systems.

A quiet exchange between making and unmaking, tension and release. Time is measured through repetition; touch becomes a language; what forms is always on the edge of disappearance. As the exhibition comes to an end, the work turns toward its own impermanence—asking what it means to hold, to loosen, and to let something change shape.

This exhibition has been a really special chapter, and I’m grateful for every conversation and connection it brought.

I’m so excited to announce my first solo exhibition “Softly Constrained” at @platform1gallery , following six months of residency.
This exhibition primarily showcases my fiber-based practice during 2024-2025, showing how I use material fragility as a method.

Platform 1 Gallery was formerly the waiting room of a train station—a transitional space full of encounters and departures, discipline and movement. As the first Chinese artist-in-residence to respond to this unique site, Weiyi weaves a quiet yet potent textile language that bridges across cultures, species, and generations. She invites the audience to engage with the tactile intimacy of her materials—where the delicate strength of handspun cotton reveals how connection emerges, strains, and endures, leaving behind touchable imprints in the folds of time.

INTRO:
Ivy’s practice explores emotional labor, memory, and fragile states of being - through the use of natural
materials and intuitive, repetitive processes.
Her interests are rooted in the intersections of personal identity, relational structures and cultural memory.
In working with raw fibers, sustainable materials, and techniques drawn from Chinese intangible cultural heritage Ivy shapes material and emotion into unstable, breathing forms. Thus embracing tension, collapse, and transformation as essential modes of existence.
Her ongoing research investigates how textile-based practices can construct systems of support that bridge
emotion, memory and embodied experience within the context of contemporary society and modernisation.

INTRO:
Patricia Petersen is a Danish/Polish multidisciplinary artist working across moving image, photography, performance, sculpture and text.
Drawing on experimental ethnography and autotheory, Patricia’s work explores entanglement of (post)memory, rituals, ecologies and the body; through a lens of poetic absurdity.
The collaboration with her mother and late grandmother functions both as methodology and storytelling within her work: tracing, distorting, and transmitting knowledge across time and generations.
Patricia’s work has been exhibited internationally, including at Festival Circulation(s), Arden Asbæk Gallery, Brighton Photo Fringe, and SOLAR FotoFestival.
Patricia is a member of the artist collectives Rethinking Eastern Europe and Slavic Anew, and is a senior fellow at Humanity in Action Denmark.

Mary Pedicini is part of @awhiworld 's Alternative Reality Gardening Symposium organized by @drmaggiebuxton which launched last night (UK)/this morning (NZ).

Places today are formed from multiple intelligences, materialities and lifeforms and are intersected by a rich array of alternative realities and parallel worlds. Flora, fauna, signals, code entangle, and what is considered real, true, alive and beautiful is negotiated.
In this context:
• What gardens are emerging or possible? In what realms and realities do they exist?
• What is being cultivated (internally, creatively, physically, spiritually)?
• What is thriving and what needs protection?
• What new lifeforms and materials are emerging, and how do they intersect with what exists now?
• What are you foraging? propagating? grafting together? cooking?
• What is your place?

Artist in Residence Mary Pedicini has been hard at work in the studio over the past weeks finishing a piece for "Hidden", a show of artwork by the Royal College of Art's non academic staff.

#sculptor Mary Pedicini
"Mary Pedicini is an American sculptor based in London. Her work is grounded in storytelling and her practice is research-led. She employs scale shifts and deep-time thinking to question the implicit and explicit stories we tell about ourselves and our environment. Offering audiences encounters with strange, storied objects, she allows them to try on new relationships with self, environment, and other.
In 2021 Mary was an Artist in Residence at the Diverse Intelligences Summer Institute, a community of artists and scientists exploring intelligence, mind, and cognition in all its forms. The experience fuelled and deepened work she was already pursuing on non-human consciousness, and cemented her interest in interactions between art, science and speculation. Since then, she has created portals to the underworld, theoretical laboratories, and messages to extraterrestrials.
Mary received her BA in 2019 from Dartmouth College, where she studied Art and Ecology, and her MA in 2022 from the Royal College of Art, where she studied Sculpture.”
