The Deconstruction of a Dreamer ! I’m really proud of this exhibition and performance. The vision for it came in December of last year. It was of me sleeping in person, as footage of me sleeping played behind on a large screen and audio retelling dreams. The deconstruction of a dreamer. The parts that make a dream broken into its various elements and reconstituted. As time went on the concept developed further into ideas around learning how to dream under surveillance. What is dreaming if not a space of vulnerability, respite and imagination. And so the piece expanded in its scope of its analysis to be about what it means to dream in a world that’s always watching. Dreaming facing two ways, one way the classic dreaming, a place of biological rest and reset, and the other dreaming as the actions undertaken conscious or unconscious of the imagination. One of the biggest facing so many of us today I believe is the pervasive feeling that we must rebuild the boat, at sea, while it’s sinking. And so that became my focus, how can we dream of solutions out of the dire straits we find ourselves in, even when the primary perpetrators of violence are continuously watching. I don’t have an answer besides perhaps flagrant audacity, if the way out means we must dismantle as they watch, then we must, dreaming is the ladder, dreaming is the door. So much of the empirical and oppressive forces are dependent on intimidation and self-surrender as a means of control. We don’t have to play nice! Hi Instagram ;)
I’ve included stills and one of the original sketches in the proposal @mariiiinamares and I made way back when. Crazy to see how close it ended up being to what I originally envisioned.
Special thanks to @loopbarcelona_festival@loopbarcelona thank you to @plataforma__2 for the rental and use of the space.
Big thank you to Marina for all her help on Graphics. Jose who shot the footage that wasn’t self shot and covered the performance, and Stefano who composed a 17minute score in the span of a week. Incredibly grateful to be connected to such amazing artists.

I’m very excited to announce that in one week I’ll be presenting The Deconstruction of a Dreamer as part of LOOP City Screen at Plataforma² (Barcelona). This is something that has been in the works since April and I’m very happy to bring it to fruition.
The work is a live performance and video installation exploring the relationship between dreaming and surveillance — how our capacity to imagine is shaped and eroded by the technologies surrounding us.
I will be asleep under video projections and audio recordings of myself and people will be able to come and see the full installation and performance on November 15th (3pm-8pm). As a filmmaker and artist LOOP has always been a North Star and an incredible place to see innovation, to contribute to that dialogue is an amazing honor. I hope to see you there.
Special thanks to @plataforma__2@loopbarcelona@loopbarcelona_festival
Also huge thanks to @mariiiinamares for creating this incredible flyer.
