What started with a small local team with a wildly ambitious vision to restore America has grown into something we never could have imagined. We didn’t start this movement, we just listened and learned, and started building tools to keep it growing: the #LessLawnMoreLife Challenge, the #WildrScore and now meet @WildrPlaces . Wildr Places is a platform built by and for this incredible community of rewilders restoring America one yard at a time. And there’s never been a better time to plug-in. Year 4 of Less Lawn More Life kicks off TODAY, with @RobinWallKimmerer . Author. Scientist. Storyteller. The person who taught so many of us to think of plants as teachers and nature as kin. And Plan it Wild? Still here. Still growing. Still doing the local work we’ve always loved right here in Westchester, NY. For local projects and updates follow @planitwild . đŸŒ± #LessLawnMoreLife #WildrPlaces #NativePlants

Happy Earth Day from one of the most grassroots campaigns around đŸŒ± This Earth Day, we’re proud to announce that the Less Lawn More Life Challenge is BACK! If you do nothing else this Earth day, make sure you sign up. It’s the one quiet, radical act we can all participate in that truly makes a difference. The challenge kicks off May 7th with a keynote by @robinwallkimmerer and it is completely FREE. Because the earth doesn’t need one perfect day. It needs thousands of imperfect yards saying yes to healthier habits and more nature. And it all starts right outside your door. This is what Earth Day looks like from the ground up. The fall “clean-up” myth runs deep—but it’s one of the most destructive traditions in our yards. Leaves aren’t waste, they’re life support. They build soil, shelter pollinators and fireflies, and keep birds fed through winter. Leaving the leaves doesn’t make ticks worse (that’s tall grass and edge habitat). This fall, resist the rake: less lawn, more life. 🍂✹ . . . #LeaveTheLeaves #LessLawnMoreLife #FallForNature #EcologicalGardening #BackyardHabitat #PollinatorGarden #NativePlantsForWildlife #SoilHealthMatters #RewildYourYard #MessyIsBeautiful #FireflyHabitat #BirdFriendlyYard #PollinatorFriendly #HealthyEcosystem #WildBackyard

Whether you’re dealing with too much water or not enough, the answer is the same: work with your landscape, not against it. Native plants manage water the way your region needs it managed — deep roots that drink rainfall where it falls, drought-adapted species that don’t need a sprinkler running all summer. Your yard is already part of the water cycle. The question is whether it’s helping or making things harder. Start by watching what happens next time it rains. 💧🌿 #LessLawnMoreLife #Rewild #NativePlants #WaterConservation #SustainableLandscaping

Even experienced gardeners find something new. 🌿 Garden writer & public radio host Margaret Roach tested the Wildr app in beta and found herself asking “how am I doing, and can I do a little better?” That’s exactly the point. Wildr is in beta, it’s free and we want your input to keep building it! Link in bio. @awaytogarden #Wildr #NativePlants #LessLawnMoreLife #Rewilding #EcoGarden

All it takes is a 5x5 patch to start bringing your yard back to life. đŸŒ± I'm excited to be hosting Challenge 2 of the @wildrplaces #LessLawnMoreLife challenge, a free 12-week program where over 22,500 people across the country are turning their lawns into real habitat for birds, butterflies, and pollinators. It's free to join and not too late to start: LessLawnMoreLife.com This week's challenge: pick your spot. Choose one small patch, just 5ft x 5ft, that you're going to fill with native plants. Don't worry about what to plant yet (that's next week). This week is just about committing to a spot. Here's how to pick the right one: ☀ High-impact location. Pick somewhere you can see from a window or walk by every day. You're going to want to watch it change. 🌳 The best spot is one that's already asking for it. Where your lawn struggles to grow. Under a tree where leaf litter's doing half the work. An existing bed you're ready to rewild. Balcony? A container works too. 📏 Assess your conditions. Roughly estimate how much sun that spot gets: full sun (6+ hours), partial (3-6), or shade (under 3). Notice if it stays wet or dry after rain. This will matter when you choose plants. Start small. 5x5 is easy to maintain and can still pack a real ecological punch. I'm doing this in real time, replacing more of my front lawn with natives right now. I am using wood chips in my yard to kill grass but I’ve tried a number of different approaches, including digging. Do what makes the most sense on your property. Have you picked your spot? It's free and it's not too late. Sign up at LessLawnMoreLife.com About me: I am a professional garden coach and consultant. If you would like more hands-on guidance, visit my website for information about how to book an in-person consultation in the Boston area or virtual consultation anywhere. #youcandoitgardening #gardendesign #diylandscaping #ecologicalgardening

LET’S RESTORE NATURE, ONE YARD AT A TIME 🌿 #LessLawnMoreLife is a FREE 12 week challenge featuring amazing native plant experts and practitioners that will help you transform your outdoor space into a thriving habitat. THE @robinwallkimmerer kicked it off yesterday with an amazing keynote and your first step to this challenge is the Wildr Score ✅ This five minute questionnaire allows you to better observe and understand your current ecosystem. It’ll ask you questions about the plants you have, wildlife you see and habitat you’ve cultivated. I scored a 67 and there’s a lot of work to do, but even the experts rarely score above 80. No matter where you score, it’s all about inspiring changes to your lawn and adding new garden projects to your list đŸȘ You can sign up for the challenge and get your Wildr Score with the link in my bio lesslawnmorelife.com Tag a friend who’s ready to see a little less lawn and a lot more life #RewildAmerica #NatureStartsAtHome #KnowYourLand #MillionsOfYards

When we talk about rewilding your campus, what do we actually mean? 🌿 Think: swapping out turf grass for native plants, trading non-native flower beds for wildflowers that come back every year, or starting a native garden right outside your dorm. Every campus and community is different: Unique ecosystems, unique decision-makers, unique possibilities. Rewilding might look different depending on where you are and who’s on board. But no matter the scale, we’re here to help you take that next step. 🐝
