Every time we do a product shoot we learn a bit more. However, the number one lesson that seems to be repeated (unfortunately) is that it will ALWAYS take more time than anticipated- at least with food- because you have to style the dish and the photo. The lighting is often different between dishes, you aren’t sure which angle will be most flattering of the food, the list goes on.
2026 thus far has been all about product photography for a few of my clients and it’s been an incredible time period of growth and exploration.
Can’t wait to see what other lessons we learn/mistakes we will make! Ah!

Not everything has to match. 🌊
Some days it’s a mix of shells, pearls, stones, color, whatever feels right in the moment. Wear ALL of the necklaces!
This is THAT kind of stack
Storytelling:
I’d like to believe that people still care about the story behind items.
That when you are looking at people to buy from and someone shares what inspires them, how they source their materials, how they create them, and who they are as a person- these things illicit some sort of emotional response that push you to purchase from a hard working, small entrepreneurial team, over a corporation or massive manufacturing plant primarily utilizing machines.
Maybe that’s silly of me to still think people care just because I do?
But if you care, and if you want to learn more about the people behind the product- let me know!
Here- I highlight one of my newest clients @sacredwavehawaii and her beautiful, hand knotted creations!
Mapping out a vision and a plan is ESSENTIAL for product photography more than any other type of photoshoot.
There is so much assembly required and that includes making lists of foods, ingredients, props, etc. to make the photos into something you’ll want. You also need to think about the end location of these images.
Are they for social media and will need to be vertical and cropped, if so, don’t shoot TOO tight because you will already be losing some of the image when you post.
Are they going on your website? Chance is you’ll want horizontal and you might need space for text or an image that can have text written over it.
As a full service creative agency, we do all this thinking for our clients based upon the vision we are executing. If you hire a photographer and don’t have the time or know-how to do all this planning on your own, make sure your photographer is doing it for you so you know what you are paying for and how it will be used!
Why work for yourself?
Scroll and see some of the views I encountered while working for my own small business, remotely, in Morocco.
The world has gone fully digital and electric, and in most places, you can access the internet and charge your devices, so you can theoretically continue working regardless of where you are.
Yes, it takes a schedule, extreme motivation, and drive- BUT it allows an unparalleled freedom.
Challenge accepted!
I’d like to say we completely crushed it and did everything right, but we relied on intuition, creativity, and inspiration rather than research.
Looking back, I’ve already learned so much that I would have done differently, but there’s always a next time. There’s always room for improvement- whether it be the setup, the photos, the props, or the editing itself.
Grateful to have clients to take this journey with me, and can’t wait to see what else we are capable of creating as we grow!

EARTH DAY COMING UP SOON!!!
While I firmly believe every day should be spent considering the health and protection of our earth, I love a day completely dedicated to it!
Over the past 8 years of living in Hawaii, I have planned a beach clean up every single year. I have collaborated with businesses and nonprofits and have had between 20-60 People attend!
I’m so grateful for this beautiful island and our incredible planet and I hope to continue this tradition of a clean up every year!
My job and passion for travel has allowed me to travel the world and see some of the most incredible hidden slices of paradise. There are so many places on earth that are worth seeing and so many that need our protection.
If you can’t do a clean up, I urge you to donate to a nonprofit doing environmental work in your local community or doing work for a cause you really care about!
