ARTISTSLIPP: MUSLIM SHAGGAN
ENG:
Muslim Shaggan is a vocalist from Lahore, Pakistan, descending from a musical lineage with roots in the 16th century. From childhood he was trained in the Gwalior style of Hindustani vocal music by his grandfather; the legendary Ustad Ghulam Hassan Shaggan. Today, Muslim is regarded as one of the most accomplished classical vocalists of his generation in Pakistan.
He is joined by table player Asher Shezad and bansuri player Daniyal Ahmed, who visited us with Ustad Noor Baksh in 2024. Thanks to Ahmed and booking agency Planet Rock for making it possible to experience this music in Rollag!
Wow, what a blast from the past! @baze.djunkiii dug (very) deep in his archive and found an old tour poster we printed for DJ sets with Panacea in 1999.
We recommend not trying the phone number and email address; they might have been disconnected a long time ago 😅
07.06.26_ Rəhman Məmmədli (AZ)
With eminent musicianship and a deep love for Azerbaijan’s original traditions, Rəhman Məmmədli conjures dizzying, psychedelic soundscapes on his electric guitar. As a central figure on the distinctive “Azerbaijani Gitara” scene, he merges ancient mugham and ashiq traditions with electric guitar in an expression that can evoke memories of surf rock while also opening into a colorful, psychedelic universe. When Rəhman Məmmədli takes the stage at ALICE this summer, he does so with his band and a concert experience that balances virtuosity, tradition, and hypnotic groove.
Born in the Karabakh region and trained in the area’s rich musical traditions, Məmmədli has developed a very special playing style in which, with impressive technique, he imitates the vocal nuances of classical mugham on the guitar — an ability that has earned him the nickname “the man with singing fingers.” Together with his son Tural on keyboards and Elshad Abdulrahimov on percussion, he creates an intense and captivating sonic universe where Eastern psychedelia, tradition, and electric guitar magic merge. A rare chance to experience a true cult figure from the Caucasus at ALICE.
The concert is presented in collaboration with Out of Office.

Mohammad Mostafa Heydarian, a young master of the tanbur, performs this Sunday, 22 March at Morphine Raum.
Born in the city of Kermanshah, Iran, where the lute-like tanbur originated more than 5000 years ago, Heydarian was exposed to the instrument and its role in sacred music at a very young age. The Yarsans, a millennium sect of Kurdish people, have long made this region of the country their home. Their mystic rituals (jâm) are performed with tanbur, and the sacred music they play is a heritage that is steeped in one thousand years of tradition.
In Heydarian’s work, these overlapping worlds of family, faith, tradition, and culture converge.
