✧ *Yasuke · Through the Repertoire* ✧ Pt.2
Yasuke’s story begins in the fifteenth century, where myth and memory intersect.
A young African man arrives in Japan and enters the service of Oda Nobunaga.
Through loyalty, discipline and an uncommon presence,
he becomes recognised as the first Black samurai (retainer) a figure carried through movement, craft
Yet Yasuke’s story is also a mirror.
A call toward shadow interrogation, a summons
to meet the parts of ourselves we avoid or conceal.
His journey resonates with anyone who has felt displaced, unseen or unrecognised, yet still chooses presence
This is where Plaɘ and Baba Yaya converge.
Two years of shaping a shared language across dance, theatre, scenography, rhythm and memory-smithing.
Together we create a world where story is not observed but lived.
Through the Repertoire became a threshold.
A gathering to explore how narrative imprints itself through the body.
A space to witness process instead of product, to notice what emerges through repetition, discipline, becoming.
Resonance joined this constellation of makers. Artisans of scent, garment and adornment who shape the subtle architecture of atmosphere.
Smoke, dyed textiles, jewellery, layered garments, the sensorial fabric that holds the room together.
A triad of movement, material and memory beside Plaɘ and Baba Yaya.
Through the Repertoire was never only an event. It was an ecosystem. A conversation between bodies. A bridge between archive and repertoire, where history becomes a lived practice again.
A place where Yasuke’s story becomes everyone’s story, inviting us to face the shadow, honour the body and step into presence.

Graphic system for @plae_create ➼ used, unused, archived and repurposed.
An evolving visual system built through repetition, distortion, overprinting and instinct. Fragments pulled from event collateral, sticker studies, interface experiments and abandoned concepts, all contributing toward the broader visual language.
Nothing here was approached as a fixed identity system. More a living archive of visual matter. Shapes and marks continuously sampled, stretched, degraded and reintroduced across touchpoints.
Built slowly over the last year through continuous iteration.
