Thank you to everyone who volunteered, sponsored, donated, had a booth, supported, performed, and attended Placer Pride 2026! It was a magical and joyful day, with smiles all around.
We do want to acknowledge the concerns that have been voiced about the protestor with the unpleasant sign who was allowed to stay within the boundaries of the event site this year, despite our special event permit and the fact that we reserved as much of the park as we were permitted to. It was disturbing to us, our volunteers, and to many attendees, and we apologize for not being able to address the intrusion more effectively.
Keeping Pride safe in every sense for all is our number one priority, which is why we hire private security and coordinate with Roseville PD each year. In the history of our Pride event, we have had very few protestors show up. In prior years, Roseville PD relocated the 1-4 protestors to the sidewalk across the street from the park, where they were able to exercise their 1st Amendment right to free speech.
We value the positive working relationship we have had with Roseville PD over the years, and are unclear as to why the off-duty officers we hired to be there were unable to remove the lone protestor this year to a spot outside of the reserved areas of the event.
We will be setting a meeting with Roseville PD leadership to discuss what happened and why, and what steps we need to take in the future to prevent this type of unfortunate and upsetting situation.
