Shout-out to all the inspiring law students who were awarded scholarships this year, including Stephanie! This year, the dinner was presented by our local bar association partner @SacLegal and featured a great keynote speaker and amazing entertainment. A huge thank you to SacLegal and all the affiliate bar associations who worked to put this event together. See you next year! #LincolnLambda #LincolnLawSchoolOfSacramento

Happy Saturday all! We wanted to share this upcoming webinar opportunity from The National LGBTQ+ Bar Association: Lobbying 101 for LGBTQ+ and Ally Organizations This webinar is designed to help small to medium-sized 501(c)(3) organizations understand the rules around lobbying activities. Join our panel of experts to learn what lobbying is (and what it isn’t); what the limitations are for your organization as it conducts lobbying activities; and the registration, reporting, and tax ramifications of lobbying. This engaging presentation will address questions from state and local LGBTQ+ Bar associations that have (c)(3) arms, and will help your leaders understand how to distinguish activities if your organization has both a (c)(6) and a (c)(3) structure or has one and is considering adding the other. You’ll hear not only from lawyers who are experts in this area, but also from lawyers who have led legal organizations that conduct lobbying about how they navigated difficult scenarios and what type of activities are routine and permitted. It’s never been more important to know what your organization can and cannot legally do in advocating for change and activating your members and supporters - join us to ensure you are prepared for the work ahead. The webinar will be held on Thursday, March 6 at 11am Pacific time. For more information about the featured speakers and/or to register for the webinar, head to this link: /lobbying101?e=60952f4c15

SCOTUS Case to Watch! In United States v. Skrmetti, Docket No. 23-477, the U.S. Supreme Court will decide whether Tennessee Senate Bill 1, which prohibits all medical treatments related to gender-affirming care for minors, violates the 14th Amendment’s equal protection clause. Specifically before the Court is the issue of gender-affirming puberty blockers, hormone therapy, and similar care (but not surgeries). Transgender youths are denied these treatments, but carve-outs in the law allow for these treatments to continue where already begun and for new patients not seeking gender-affirming results.  Several major U.S. medical groups have come out in favor of gender-affirming care for minors, citing studies that show dramatic reductions in suicide attempts, depression, and anxiety where such care is made available. The matter will be heard in the fall, with a decision likely to come in June/July 2025. Follow the case and read more details on the SCOTUS Blog: /2024/06/supreme-court-takes-up-challenge-to-ban-on-gender-affirming-care/  🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️ #TransRightsAreHumanRights #GenderAffirmingCareIsHealthcare #TransKidsMatter #LincolnLambda #LincolnLawSchoolOfSacramento #SCOTUS #SCOTUSBlog
