I’ve been working on a thing: “The Vicki Myhren Gallery is proud to present Code-X: Contemporary Chicanx Codices, curated by DU’s own Rafael Fajardo, Professor of Emergent Digital Practices. This exhibition brings together the artworks of more than a dozen Chicanx artists who reimagine the long tradition of the codex as a dynamic space for Chicanx storytelling. Ranging from painting and prints to comic books, zines, and video games, these artworks bridge the analog and digital. The artists mix the ancient, colonial, and modern to explore the complexities of contemporary life, including migration, Mestizaje, and cultural survival. Featuring many interactive artworks, this exhibition invites all visitors to play and engage with these innovative and thoughtful reworkings of the codex. Anderson Ranch Arts Center welcomes Latinx Visiting Artist Rafael Fajardo. Fajardo is an artist and educator who creates boundary-blurring videogames as his medium. His work has been shown in museums all over the world — and his research funded by @nsfgov #thenationalendowmentforthehumanities and @mtv ⁣ ⁣ Born in Colombia and migrated to the US with his parents, Rafael's work focuses on using videogames to explore social justice issues. In particular, his games seek to shed light on problems faced by immigrants, people of color, and other marginalized groups. ⁣ ⁣ By blurring the lines between game and reality, Rafael's work invites players to question their assumptions about the world around them. Latergram from the near past. I was invited by @runamora to share my thoughts about the potential futures of designerly practices with students at Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador. I offered some tools and role models that have helped me catch glimpses.

A less successful day on the 3D printer. Tried 12 point Ariel Rounded all caps with generous letter space. I need to learn more about fine adjustments for “hot end” speed and temperature beyond the default settings. It may yield intelligible, even legible, words on the letterpress thanks to suppleness of human perception within context.

Formalizing the experiment with additive 3D printing a plate and a quick printed proof. The corner mark lets me ensure that the size is consistent across the set of softwares employed. The printer settings are the default 15% infill with no ironing. The letterforms aren’t going to remain faithful to the original intent, I think.
