West Coast hops in a lager? Sounds risky… . . Another homebrew from the Pinter and this time it’s the Hopewell Brewery West Coast Lager weighing in at 4.5%. One of those beers that disappears quicker than you planned because it’s just ridiculously easy drinking. Pours bright, crisp and proper clean with that snappy lager finish, but then you get those classic West Coast vibes coming through with citrus, pine and a little bitter kick on the end. Feels lighter than a pale ale but still has enough hop character to stop it being boring. Fair play to Pinter again as well ridiculously easy to brew and it actually tastes like something you’d happily get served in a decent taproom. This is Part Three! Two weeks ago, I started my first attempt at home brewing using the Pinter home brewing device. I showed off the unboxing and then the start of the brew, and now, finally, we get to the tasting! I’m going to say this: the Appalachian Mountain Brewery Tropical IPA was glorious. It tasted fruit - big notes of citrus and orange. There is nothing like fresh brewed beer, and this kit was fantastic. The entire process took about 16 days - 9 days of fermenting and then another 7 of conditioning in the fridge. It was simple and easy to do - in fact, the only hard part was having to wait. If you’ve ever wanted to try home brewing, I cannot recommend the Pinter enough. The unit is well made, I love the tap handle, and the entire process was simple enough even this GenXer could do it. Trust the Trub! 🧬✨ Fermentation is officially in the books for the Pinter x Lagunitas Sumpin’ Easy. If your dock looks this messy, you’re doing it right! That bubbling sediment is a sign the yeast has been working overtime to hit that 5.7% ABV. 📈We’ve officially detached from the dock and moved into the Conditioning Stage. Now for the hardest part of home brewing: the wait. The Game Plan:❄️ Cold Crash: It’s hitting the fridge to clear up.🕒 7-Day Sleep: We’re giving this a full week of conditioning to let those citrus zest and floral pine notes really settle and smooth out.🍻 The Goal: A velvety, hoppy wheat ale that tastes like it came straight from Petaluma. Let’s brew a @pinter_usa + @hopewellbrewing collab beer using the Pinter system! As someone who got started in this industry home brewing (and quickly realized it was not for me), this was such a cool experience to brew a small batch of fresh beer at home, with much less equipment, steps, time, and energy! Plus, I always love a collab and I was stoked when Pinter reached out about their recent collaboration with @hopewellbrewing . This is an extremely approachable way to brew a small batch of beer at home. They’ve got a wide range of styles and brewery collabs available to try. Cleanup is seamless, the equipment is much more manageable compared to the pots and pans that have since found themselves in my parent’s basement (sorry fam). And while the bottling process is fun at first, if you’re not entirely stoked about the final product then you’re stuck on 40ish bottles of mid beer that you’re begging your friends to drink which is a bummer. This beer turned out great, checking all the boxes for a West Coast Lager, solid clarity, carbonation, and a crisp and refreshing beer with citrus and subtle hops.
