Rock Springs premiered at the 2026 Sundance Festival!
Rock Springs, written and directed by Vera Miao, explores over a century’s worth of racial trauma through a Chinese-American family, though the historical horror here is monstrous in more ways than one.

"What is the difference between a ghost and an ancestor?" That's the question this week’s Renegade dares to ask: meet filmmaker Vera Miao! Our weekly Renegades editorial series spotlights Asian Pacific leaders and creatives who are carving their own paths and defying stereotypes along the way.
Born in Guam to working class immigrants from Taiwan, Vera started her career as an actress, but soon found herself wanting to tell her own stories. Enamored by the horror genre, she created "Two Sentence Horror Stories", an anthology series inspired by the titular literary trend. She is set to make her feature directorial debut at Sundance Film Festival with Rock Springs, a horror film, starring Kelly Marie Tran, Jimmy O. Yang, Benedict Wong, and Aria Kim, exploring the Rock Springs massacre of 1885.

Last week the Tibbs team wrapped one of our most exciting and ambitious projects to date. Directors Amara Untermeyer and Brandon Rottman teamed up to craft something truly special. This pharmaceutical project carried a tremendous number of moving pieces, from practical makeup effects to an extensive suite of volume backgrounds.
We spent the week in Toronto with an incredible cast and crew who could not have been more talented, generous, or accommodating.
