Congratulations to artist Maja Malou Lyse @habitual_body_monitoring2 , whose exhibition ‘Things to Come’ has opened in the Danish Pavilion at @labiennale . Looking at the installation images, we fully understand that this might not be the centre of attention for anyone but us... Anyway, here is a brief update on the renovation we set in motion as part of our exhibition ‘Build of Site’, which opened exactly one year ago. As the images show, the pivot door, made by adding a new frame and hinge to the fixed window, is complete, while the rework of the floor remains temporarily on hold beneath the blue surface. Once Lyse’s exhibition closes, the final phase will be carried out, before @dominiqueserena exhibits in 2027. Images: @ugocarmeni_studio @danishpavilion_architecture @danishpavilion

We have received a generous working grant from the Danish Arts Foundation’s Committee for Architecture. It supports the continued development of our practice and gives us more time to work on the tricky things that often lie somewhere at the edge of a defined project scope. Thank you to @statenskunstfond , and welcome to the new members of the committee. Photos: Hampus Berndtson @hampusper

Biopsying into Protocolling. Working directly from the exhibition space, two sections of an existing wall are cut, scanned, and translated into data in close collaboration with @taaod._ Through artificial intelligence, the extracted fragments are converted into geometry, segmented into components, linked to data, and iteratively reworked into new material figures. The investigation seeks to systematise the irregularities of the already built, using computational tools to support the analytical work required for reuse. Part of ‘Genanvendelsens poesi’ at @tilvaerks , opening today. @statenskunstfond @dreyersfond

At Thoravej 29, documentation was carried out continuously by photographer @hampusper throughout the transformation. By registering the existing, the dismantled, the retained, the newly built, and the actions that shaped these conditions, it informed both the reading of the building and the development of the work, turning documentation into an integral part of the realisation. @thoravej29 @bikubenfonden

At Saari Residence in southwestern Finland, we are transforming three traditional agricultural buildings for Kone Foundation, an independent foundation supporting art, culture, and research. A stone barn already used by residents is being reworked, while the grain dryer and machinery hall are adapted to expand the residency. In parallel, the project is shaped through collaboration with local producers on the development of board materials based on waste wood and lignin. Images by @kallekouhia show the site as found. @koneensaatio @saariresidence

Competition proposal for the transformation of a former hardware factory into a cultural cluster in Northern Jutland. Having expanded over several years, the factory today consists of a range of interconnected buildings. With a few structural interventions, the centrally located building is opened up and turned into an atrium: roofed yet unheated, seasonal in use, and not dedicated to a single programme. Instead, it becomes the social, spatial and logistical pivot, connecting theatre, museum, education and restaurant, while serving as shared surplus space for all of them. It works like a hinge, holding the complex together while allowing routes to cross, pauses to happen, and uses to shift over time without permanent rebuilding or added ornament. Movement and transparency between programmes become the organising forces. Developed in close collaboration with @lundgaardtranberg , @bogl_landscape and Søren Jensen Consulting Engineers. As part of our @labiennale contribution ‘Build of Site’, we worked with earth construction specialists @lehmag to develop a series of rammed earth elements for the Danish Pavilion. Soil was excavated from beneath the pavilion in Venice and brought to Zürich, where Lehmag carried out material tests. Based on these, we produced a range of prototypes together in their workshop in Brunnen, exploring different aggregates and bio-based additives. The tested materials were later used on-site in Venice to produce floors, benches, blocks, table elements, and other integrated exhibition components. 1-4: testing and prototyping in Switzerland 5-6: analysis and results by @lehmag 7-10: sourcing and application in Venice. Book: Thoravej 29, Chapter E: Patching / Curated Traces. "Patching is a strategic approach for integrating new elements into an existing structure while maintaining distinctive characteristics. This method begins by mapping the existing space, identifying specific needs, and addressing them systematically. It serves as both a practical solution and an aesthetic method for preserving the integrity of the structure, while simultaneously introducing a layer of novelty." Thoravej 29 is going to Barcelona as part of @eumiesawards . The shortlist for the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture / Mies van der Rohe Awards 2026 has been announced. Out of 410 nominations, 40 projects have been selected, spanning 36 cities across 18 countries, including Thoravej 29. Over three days in Barcelona, the jury examined the nominated projects to assess the current state and direction of European architecture. The jury consisted of President Smiljan Radić, Carl Bäckstrand, Chris Briffa, Zaiga Gaile, Tina Gregorič, Nikolaus Hirsch and Rosa Rull. As part of the selection, Thoravej 29 will be included in the official EUmies Awards publication and presented in the exhibition opening during the Awards Ceremony in May 2026 at the Barcelona Pavilion @fundaciomies .
