Our third nominee in the shortlist for the Sustainable Production Award at the @screendaily Global Production Awards in Cannes tomorrow is... Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale
A fitting farewell to a beloved franchise - and one that set the bar high behind the scenes too. Working with Carnival Film & Television Limited and the production team, the film achieved a carbon footprint half the industry average for a film of its size, eliminating over 40% of Scope 1 and 2 emissions. The team piloted a green hydrogen fuel cell on location, cut typical fuel consumption by a third, and donated over 150 cubic yards of set pieces to an outdoor museum for continued use.
Just as the Crawleys always cared for their estate, this production cared for the world around it. We couldn't be prouder to have been part of it.
Fingers crossed for Monday! 🤞

Next up for the @screendaily Sustainable Production Award nominations... Jurassic World: Rebirth
It was a privilege to support the sustainability work on a production of this scale. The team's commitment ran deep - from eliminating over 100,000 single-use items through a comprehensive waste programme, to deploying battery technology on location to reduce generator use, to organising beach cleanups that removed over two and a half tonnes of waste from local coastlines. Emissions came in below the industry average for tentpole films.
Fingers crossed for Monday! 🤞

We're so proud that four productions Picture Zero has supported have been shortlisted for the Sustainable Production Award at the @screendaily Global Production Awards in Cannes on the 18th May.
First up... Hamnet!
It was a privilege to lead the sustainability work on this production, and to be part of a team that took its responsibilities seriously at every stage. Thank you to everyone who made it possible.
"From energy-efficient production practices to thoughtful reuse and community giving, our sustainability program on Hamnet demonstrates how investing in local clean infrastructure and equipment materially reduced our footprint and benefited future London-based productions. BAFTA Albert certification recognizes these tangible actions taken by our producers and production team to integrate sustainability seamlessly into the filmmaker's creative vision and help drive long-term industry change." - Audrey Vinant-Tang, VP of Sustainability, NBCUniversal
Fingers crossed for Monday! 🤞

Happy 100th Birthday to Sir David Attenborough!
For generations, Sir David has helped us see the beauty, wonder and fragility of the natural world with clarity, humanity and compassion. His contribution to environmental filmmaking is immeasurable.
At Picture Zero, we particularly want to acknowledge the impact of Climate Change: The Facts - a landmark film that helped bring the urgency of the climate crisis into millions of homes and changed the conversation around climate storytelling forever.
Climate Change: The Facts is available to watch for free on BBC iPlayer: /iplayer/episode/m00049b1/climate-change-the-facts
We were also incredibly honoured that Sir David appeared in The People vs Climate Change, supporting the opening of Climate Assembly UK and helping inspire citizens from across the country as they grappled with one of the defining challenges of our age.
The People vs Climate Change is available to watch for free on Kinema: /films/the-people-vs-climate-change-zjrect
It meant a great deal to us that, following the Parliamentary screening of the film, Sir David took the time to meet two of our contributors, Sue Peachy and Marc Robson, and hear about their experiences as Assembly members.
Thank you, Sir David, for a lifetime of storytelling that has informed, inspired and moved the world.
Happy 100th Birthday from all of us at Picture Zero.
Picture Zero founder Steve Smith will be joining a panel discussion at Bournemouth University following a screening of The People vs Climate Change.
The film follows the UK’s first Citizens’ Climate Assembly, bringing together ordinary people from across the country to explore how the UK should respond to the climate crisis.
As an executive producer on the film, Steve is looking forward to discussing what’s changed five years on, and the role media and storytelling can play in shaping climate action.

Her love of Scotland’s Highlands inspires her commitment to tackling climate and biodiversity challenges on and off set.
