The golden scissors have had a fair few outings of late + I’m still playing catch up with what has been coming off the student looms of late!
This beautiful @knollyarns merino lambswool length came off loom a week or so ago and was woven to be made into homewares/cushions + to cover journals.
Inspiration for this beautiful weave structure came from one of the (Dr. William G.) Bateman books we have in our extensive textile library in the PickOne studio’s.
If your interested in coming along to any of our weekly weave classes, do drop me a message via IG or the website - link in the bio - as we currently have availability in our evening classes on a Tuesday and a Thursday.

Happy Wednesday!
The golden scissors have been working over time these past few weeks + last week they made another snippy appearance as the cut off this wonderful merino lambs wool scarf length.
The hopsack structure is deceptively simple + gives a wonderful squared texture + structure to the fabric. I’m really looking forward to seeing this piece post finish!

Happy Monday …
I’m having a #Yazoo kinda 80’s top tunage day blasting out in the PickOne studios … bliss.
With this aural delight I can’t fail to have a grand day + this image is another #WIP …
Happy Thursday!
Yes!!!
The golden scissors have had another airing + this time it’s long time attenddee @elliott_jemima who produced a beautiful length of #crackle weave fabric in @vennecolcoton cottolin which was then chopped up to make a series stunning homeware items, as illustrated later in the carrousel of images.
I find the colour mixing beautiful + inspiring. This has been a tremendous success + I’m happy to report that this student has already warped up in preparation for her next adventure in warp + weft!
It’s all good!

Another #wip from me …. I can’t stop fiddling this time I’m adding in a check under the #sashiko stitch and I’m asking myself … is it worth it?
What do you think?
Lots of counting to 4 involved in this cloth … which I don’t mind as well as just having the one coloured “stitched” thread … it’s all good though …
This is spectacular.
Woven at 14.6 meters long in glorious @knollyarns merino lambs wool over 24 shafts on a computerised @louet_worldwide magic dobby the threading/draft comes from the fantastic @marianstubenitsky “Janna Weaves” book, with adapted lift plans by the student @itcweaves himself.
If you pop over to his IG account, @itcweaves you’ll see a wee film of the full length being taken off loom … a sight to behold!
This impressive piece of weaving is to be made into 4 oversized scarfs + 3 snoods + gifted to family members back in the US.
I’m looking forward to seeing them post finishing + to see what’s to come next! What ever the answer it’s going to very interesting!
I hope it’s all a fine day with you, where ever you are!
Isn’t this fantastic….
This was taken last night of #wip scarf piece + there was a bit of debate about what one sees in the fabric … spots, circles or diamonds?
What do you see?
What a fantastic weekend we had at the PickOne Studios @coburghouse where I had the pleasure of teaching three enthusiastic students — one returning weaver and two complete beginners.
Two students joined from the Stockbridge area of Edinburgh, while one travelled from Forres in the north of Scotland. Staying an extra day, the student completed their very first handwoven scarf — a beautiful dogtooth check in merino lambswool.
The other students took their dressed looms home to finish their projects, with one already sharing a lovely photo of their home weaving set-up, as attached — a great reminder of just how portable these brilliant @ashford_wheels_looms looms are!
If you’d like to create your own handwoven scarf from start to finish on a Weekend of Weave workshop, visit the PickOne website for more information and upcoming dates. Link in the bio or click on the following link -

😀
Tables set, looms/warping mills prepped, worksheets printed carpet hoovered + #tunnocks #teacakes chilling in the studio fridge all ready for this weekends April #wabsters to arrive for weekend adventures in warp + weft!!!
More pics to follow … if I remember to take any.
Future weekend workshop dates for 2026, with additional information + bookable link can be found here at - /all-classes/#weekend-weave
Advance weekend weave workshop dates are coming soon!
Happy Friday!
This is quite a feat. Please scroll through the images … which sadly I don’t feel give justice to the complexity of this piece.
Woven in @vennecolcoton cottolin this is a very exciting example of quadruple cloth woven over an 8 shafts on a @ashford_wheels_looms table loom
This was a fairly/very complex set up, admirable achieved by this long term student, with four cloths set up over 2 warps + 2 beams. Some jiggery pockery was involved. The final stripey cloths, which also led to a couple of head scratching moments, have some amazing + complex structures held within the 4 layers.
It was a challenging process, as each layer had to be woven in rotation, but I’m delighted that the student is completely chuffed with the intricacies of the completed piece!
Enjoy!
I’m really chuffed with how this delicate colour way + structure combination is working out on this #double #sashiko one @knollyarns merino lambs wool.
Now the question is … would we want them woven super long or a shorter wee neck warmer length?
Let me know what you think.
