Public speaking is probably one of my least favorite things to do (like many others I’m sure).. especially when trying to cover a decade of my life within 45 minutes. However, back in November I gave a talk at Columbia College Chicago where I attempted to do this. Listening and watching myself speak/think is a very interesting and uncomfortable experience haha.. but I’m trying to get used to being uncomfortable, I suppose. I didn’t do a perfect job, but here are a few screen shots from the talk (which I, very cautiously, linked in my bio and will probably take down soon). 🙃 <3
The Grey Point (ii) / oil on canvas / 30 x 10in / 2025
Happy Friday! I never got around to sharing this piece, which I made alongside the work in my most recent show but we decided not to present it (for spacing purposes).
This one felt a little odd, but maybe that’s good? Missing the mountains and the view from the studio (though I’ve also missed Chicago). Another piece made at @penlandschool
Color-aid, oil, and acrylic on canvas.
It’s been quite enlightening (and fun) to re-engage with painting at what initially felt like a sort of “fundamental” level, whatever fundamental means.. The second image was a very unintentional yet exciting moment where the landscape matched.
Color-aid and oil paint on wood panel / 11 x 14in
Two weeks in, just working through ideas..
1. Little painting
2. Me and the view from the studio (gorgeous).
3. Another little painting.
4. Cute mug!!
5. Color-aid that I found.
6. Little sketch with color-aid while I watched Zootopia 2.
7. Karaoke at Northlight! <3
8. An idea..
9. Another idea..
10. Glassblowing
11. 👍🏽
Today is the (last) day! Although I’m not currently in Chicago for its final hours, today is your final chance to catch my show at @65grand , Entangled Forces.
Huge huge thank you to everyone who’s been a part of this show, especially Bill & Dahlia! It always feels nice when someone believes in your vision. <3 An additional thank you to everyone who’s gone to see the show, who have asked me to join you in seeing the show, who have reached out with thoughts and/or questions, and who made it out to the talk.
The set of images are install shots from the show, words I’ve grouped together, things I’ve been reading, why im currently not in Chicago, and podcasts I’ve been listening to.
With much love,
M
