I had a pleasure of hosting a dinner party with some of my nearest and dearest, with the theme âAn ode to the African Hall Partyâ. I really wanted to capture the warmth and essence of community and togetherness that I felt so strongly at many hall parties growing up, and the food and drink that formed the heart of it. The family-style menu focused on those dishes that would always make the hall party buffet table, but with some reinvented and modern adaptation in true Asanka style.
A huge thank you to @kiramaerichards for capturing my journey and the heart of Asanka so beautifully. Another huge thank you to @christiancassiel for the strikingly gorgeous photographs. Both were such a joy to work with.

Fante Fante - Red snapper, fante fante stew, yam cubes, pickled onions.
Taking you over to the coast of Ghana to the Fante people. âFante Fanteâ is a traditional fresh fish stew made with a blend of the usual tomatoes, onions, ginger and kpakpo shito. The base of the stew is palm oil which gives it its unique taste and colour. This fishermanâs stew is traditionally paired with Fante Kenkey, yam or corn banku. First introduced to me by my aunt who lives in Winneba, and it has stayed with me since.

Sweet Tooth Saturdays â Tiramisu French Toast
Brioche French toast, espresso whipped mascarpone, espresso vanilla crème anglaise.
It was so good, I felt this one in my braaaiiiimmmmm.

Langoustine & Prawn Toast, Scotch Bonnet Mayo, Chive.
Take the last piece of agege bread, slap on a mixture of minced langoustine and prawns seasoned with uziza, white pepper, sesame oil and salt before dipping in sesame seeds and frying. A Chinese takeaway classic with a little W.African twist. Obvs will slap with sweet chilli but of course a scotch bonnet mayo was deemed necessary by me. Throughly enjoyed.
